That tolerance is more than acceptable. Heat expansion will add up to well over that. With extreme conditions, coil bind gets within .050. That is about the minimum once you add in heat expansion. With room to play. I bet when you examine your pushrod length and it will have greater variation than that.

Hello this is the Magnum template guy, I got a set of the EQ heads and doing a little porting, mainly cleanup of the casting which has a lot to be desired compaired to my cracked Magnums. The question is did the EQ valves have the anti-reversion lip? Mine do but the Magnum valves don't, either intake or exhaust. So should I use the Magnum valves or just back cut or texture the EQs for better low lift flow. This is for my 73 Duster that is a cruiser not racing. Will be going with a low lift cam .450?? and just want low end torque. Really enjoy your videos.

I have sold those with the black coating. For someone that want's that look they are great. I have sold a few sets of these. They work really well with blending the top cut into the chamber, and yes the short side has a decent shape, but can be improved. On the exhaust I cut a 75° and fix the short side as all of them have not been near as good as they should have been. Also I open the pinch at the top [trapezoidal] as per D.V. Why not meaure all the valves and move them around if there's different stem heghts for a more even install height. The last set of Elgin valves i used all measured exactly the same length. When doing the valve job with stones i usually do an end chamber first. Then do the other end chamber next till its the same depth. I load a valve in each. If i place a machinist straight edge from valve tip to valve tip it shows me how deep to make the middle chamber seats so all the valve heights are exactly the same. It takes some time pulling pilots and checking but very accurate.

Hi, gr8 video, now i want that tool😂😂😂, just a thought, if you have the time, what about trying each valve in one seat installed to see if there are manufacturing differences, if there are, installing - removing- checking this measurement for each valve individually in each seat could result in closer numbers in this measurement....on another note, hand grinding valves to mate to seats- it can be measured how much grinding results in how much this measurement reduces....

Just remember Charlie that the only number that is relevant is the number that relates to the actual valve that will be in that hole. Without knowing the manufacturing tolerance on the valves, you might be doing a lot of work for nothing. I did this same test a few years ago. I used a bore sleeve off the head deck and used exhaust pitot tube to measure velocity around the circumference of the intake valve. Because of the 23 degree valve angle and chamber design you can not get consistent velocity around the valve. When you used the long wand it shows atmospheric pressure smacking the string, this is why it was bouncing around. Checking cfm this way is a waste of time in my opinion. The cylinder head sits on a cylinder bore. If you go crazy and enshrouded the chamber to much you will kill the head.
