Why would you do as you call a "teardrop"? If that chain loosens that hook comes off, there is absolutely nothing holding that coil to the trailer.

Code section states it will be 2 tie-downs in the first 10 feet, one tie-down for the next 10 feet and any additional 10 feet, AND one tie-down for a fraction of 10 feet. It also states the aggregate working load limit of the tie-down assembles must be equal to or at least half the weight of the article you are securing.

Has to be a reason you aren't getting hired. There are jobs everywhere and most companies are hiring so not sure what issues you have. But I am OTR driver where demand is higher for us so if you are local only then you will definitely be limited in what's available in your location. Good luck to you.

They should load these coils on their side... with the "eye" facing the sky. It makes no sense to load them so that they can roll off the trailer.

Hey, I got a quick question. You mentioned on 03:15 that DOT says you hae to have 50% of the weight secure. Can you please elaborate on that? What about the other 50%? Thank you

You’re wrong, maybe you should read the regulations before making such a video. The law requires 2 straps in the first 10 feet and 1 strap for each additional 10 feet of article length, they do not have to be spaced every 10 feet it only requires that it has the right number. If it’s against a bulkhead or other such restriction from forward movement then 1 strap or chain per 10 feet is all that is required. Of course this doesn’t include weight calculation which may increase the amount required for particularly heavy items. Even before the 2022 changes it was still 2 in the first 10 so what you’re telling people is still factually incorrect. Your company may have its own rules but that does not make it a legal requirement. Fmcsa dot dot dot gov go to the regulations then cargo securement for those who want to know the actual requirements.

So many things wrong with this video it’s incredible. Chain hooks should point up, NEVER down! DOT requires at least a thumbs width of thread left when done tightening for adjustment when traveling. I had to stop watching because of all the mistakes
@Almiighty_Q12 күн бұрын
how will the hooks point upwards if the chain is routed completely downward? Honest question. Are you saying just put the hook on the stake pocket upward (no teardrop?) Because it’s no way you can do a right side up teardrop to a chain that’s routed entirely downward.
@littledocter016624 ай бұрын
Only mega fleets make this job more complicated then what it is then wonder why no one drives for them or why they can't keep drivers. a 65,000 lb coil only needs 2 coil racks most drivers use 3 for this I would use 4 due to the split 4*4's but a SMART non mega driver would go to lows or home depo and by 2 8' 4*4's only needing to use 2 coil racks.

It's kinda interesting in the comments how this is so professional and he's doesn't hook to the chains to the correct place on the trailer...the stake pockets are for stakes and the round things between the stake pockets are for chains.
