Can was a fantastic band that created timeless music. It hasn't aged at all, and their sound is unique. Held together by the mesmerising steady groove from Jaki LiebezeitÄs drums, a whole world of unususal sounds unfolds, garnred by two unusual singers - Malcolm Mooney from 1968 to 1971, and Damo Suzuki from 1972 until 1974. On their later recordings, the vocals were shared by Michael Karoli and Irmin Schmidt. They were outstanding musicians - Irmin Schmidt and Holger Czukay had studied avantgarde music with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Jaki Liebezeit had a background in free Jazz. Every piece of music of these guys is worth cheking out. I heard them in 1973 the first time, when I was 13, and they just blew my mind.

Don't know Tom Waits much. Maybe slightly in the sound of the voice but not as gritty as Waits. Musically? I don't know.

I had the misfortune of being taught by nuns in Ireland. This is one of the songs they made us sind as 5 year olds. They were pure evil.

Algerian music is the mixture of Turkish mediaeval, arabic, and western music (France) styles. It's amazing and cheerful.. let me know if you need translation for the song

Ya = hello or Hi, Zina = the beautiful (female) for male Zine, this song's lyrics are from 100 years patrimonial , every band retries it with heir touch , I like it.

This band was at the top of our playlist as a youngster back in the early seventies, they had several albums over a number of years. Brings back good memories.

I'm 25 years old. I'm a fan of these guys through my father who has been attending Southside Johnny concerts since before he was my age. Can't get enough of Johnnys vocals and the horns

I would say that Gong is from France as well. Daevid Allen was not allowed to enter England so he stayed in France and formed Gong.

Quick Clarification: People born in Spain are Spanish. People born in all other Spanish speaking countries outside of Spain (such as Mexico, Caribbean Spanish speaking countries and South America) are called Latin people. People from Spain are Europeans and not Latin such as Rosalia and people from Latin America are not Spanish. Mistaking those distinctions would be like saying the Brits are Canadians or that Australians are British just because they speak the same language.

Nina Pastori is not from Argentina. She is from the southern part of Spain in a place called Cadiz. She also has Italian blood. She became a famous singer as a kid in Spain. That's why they call her Nina which means little girl in Spanish. I leave you a video here of here singing live and it's truly an incredible magical video. Enjoy it...kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLV4qtapnZ_Lepc.html

Don't try to understand the lyrics, just relish the sound they make. I have seen a nice illustration proposing that he would use a well known book and pluck words and phrases from it to string together in his own special way. I think the title of this came from Moby Dick.
