Thank you for your comment. Yes, it will be fun for the kids to learn flying skills. I am currently teaching 5 kids to build RC airplanes from laser cut balsa wood Sunbird V2 kits. We have a Real Flight RC simulator for them to practice on also. This is part of EAA Chapter 878's RC Build and Fly 2024 program. There is a 15 part video series "Building the Sunbird V2 powered Glider" on my Channel.

Leaving them overhanging is fine. Later in you’ll put it on a bench sander (I used a belt sander upside down in a vice) and sand the outside of the ribs. You don’t want varnish on where the fabric will glue down. The pollytack seals it. And if not that the Polly brush. If you varnish the fabric glue doesn’t stick to it as well. If there’s any gussets overhanging they just get sanded.

Tom, I noticed that you spent a lot of time, scrubbing the engine with a toothbrush, even at four times speed. I honestly think it would be well worth your while to go to Harbor freight, buy an ultrasonic cleaner, go to the dollar store and buy LA’s totally awesome cleaner, fill the ultrasonic cleaner half with LA’s totally awesome cleaner and warm water and switch it on. Maybe 2 cycles in the cleaner and your engine is spotless. Maybe 20 mins tops in the ultrasonic cleaner. Try it, it’s worth the investment as you can use the cleaner for jewelry or any other type of cleaning. For the steel parts spray them with alcohol in a spray bottle and oil with marvel mystery oil or 3 in 1 to stop flash rusting. Been doing this for years and have never not got a spotless engine.

I have a wavejammer and of course it has the same engine and carb. I just cleaned the carb and rebuilt it pretty much exactly how you did in this video. It will crank all day but won't fire. I took the fuel line off to make sure it was making it through the petcock and it was. Any idea why I can't seem to get fuel to the intake?
@tomrammel5 ай бұрын
Maxwell, I am not sure what things you have already tried so I will start from the beginning. First make sure it is a problem with the fuel not getting to the motor, by spraying starting fluid into the intake and see if it fires. If it fires you can continue with the fuel system. If it doesn't fire then troubleshoot the spark/electrical system. OK now assuming that it fires on starting fluid, make sure that the curved tube on the carb connects to an engine crankcase port. This is the pulse that moves the diaphragm back and forth and pumps the fuel (fuel Pump). Assuming you still cant get it to start, connect a separate fuel tank to the carb with known good fuel line and try again. If this still doesn't work then maybe the valves inside the fuel pump part of the carb are not working or got left out accidently when the carb was apart. I hope these suggestions get you running again. Good luck, Tom
@maxwellingersoll80465 ай бұрын
@@tomrammel thanks for replying. Initially I got it running by spraying into the intake which prompted fuel flow, but the carb was too dirty to run properly. I've cleaned the tank and have all new fuel filters and have replaced a couple cracked lines, the petcock flows just fine. New plugs and battery as well, killswitch is working properly. When it did run, it cycled water properly as well. As far as I can think, it's the carb but I don't quite understand how they work. I get the concept but I can't seem to fully understand this particular carb
@tomrammel5 ай бұрын
@@maxwellingersoll8046 , The carb is designed for the rough ride of the wave runner which is why the carb doesn't have a float and carb bowl. The fuel pump is built into the carb itself and is the last pieces that go on the round stack of parts and is where the fuel inlet hose connects. One of the layers has flaps/reeds that let fuel in but close to prevent fuel from going back the other way (one way valves). The next section of the stack is the diaphragm that moves back and forth with crankcase pressure pulses. The curved brass connection is where the crankcase pulse hose connects. The next section has a diaphragm with a metal plate attached that has a protrusion that presses on a lever that stops the fuel from going into the fuel metering part of the carb. The final tube on the carb body itself is the return line where unused fuel returns back to the fuel tank. The high and low speed needle valves are just like any other small engine carb.

Thanks for your comment, T88 epoxy glue is what most use. just don't mix so much that it starts to harden before it is all used. Hardening epoxy can also make week joints.

so this carb doesnt have jets?
@tomrammel7 ай бұрын
Yes it does have a high speed and low speed adjustable jets. plus the crankcase pressure diaphragm fuel pump is built into the carb. On many engines the fuel pump is a separate unit. Fuel pressure regulation is also done with a diaphragm pressure valve instead of a bowl and float like many small engine carbs.

My dad's got a couple of these Cox funny cars, he's trying to get them running again but I have no idea what kind of fuel he needs. Can anyone help? TIA
@tomrammel8 ай бұрын
Get some glow fuel with 35% nitromethane. These small cox engines work best with this higher percentage nitromethane fuel. Also you may have to check the reed valve inside the front of the fuel tank to make sure it is not stuck from sitting for a long time. Make sure the glow cylinder head is glowing orange while the battery is connected. If not you either need a new glow head or the 1.5 Volt battery is week. some times the plastic tube inside the tank with the spring inside can get pluged up with gunk and not allow fuel into the engine. While trying to start the engine prime into the exhaust port with a few drops of fuel. I hope some of this helps, If you still can't get it started try asking some more questions or explain exactly what you are doing to try to start the engine.
