I love the idea of using sunflowers as a trellis. I just learned about this method a few weeks ago and I am trying it in my own garden. I’m a KZfaq gardener too. I think I may have already messed up. My pole beans and morning glories that I planned to grow up the sunflower and growing so much faster then my sunflowers! Do you have any advice on what I should do now? I may make a trellis out of branches but I’d love to see this work out as is. Thank you for all your help. You have taught me something new. I hope we can continue to learn more from each other.

Good video. Thanks! One question, do you leave the two plants to grow to maturity?
@roberttankersley79833 жыл бұрын
Looks like it is definitely coming along. We grow the same plants mostly. I had to expand my garden this year to make room for my growing obsession! Took a cue from you and added alot of merigolds for pest control. Working out well. North Texas had a really weird winter. So I'm playing catch up by about a month.. thanks for your update. Good job!

It already looks totally different. I've moved everything way far apart and pulled out the bush beans. They just weren't working in the grow bags I tried out. I put some zucchini in its place. It's always a huge experiment and adventure every year, Next year I'm going back in ground without the pots. The watering is just killing me. No need to worry about flooding but I just can't keep it watered enough so I find myself watering like 3 hours a day. Next year I'll take the tractor and till deeply on high ground, till in 15 year old tree compost (GOLD), and dig out drainage along the barnside. It's already getting really hot here in Florida, so I'm making the most of what I have until the heat takes over. I'll keep you updated with the unground garden.

@@CreekLivin this is the first year Ive had auctual rows . I bought a tiller finally. I have grow boxes that I've had going for several years. With huge success. So I'm crossing my fingers that I prepared everything right. Ive been getting free mulch from the tree service guys. So my garden is totally mulched out with several inches of the stuff. I hate grass in there with a passion. This seems to be working out and its pretty. Do u know anything about garden lime. I read somewhere that if there's oak trees anywhere in the vicinity that more than likely the soil is acidic and to add lime. I didn't read that till after I planted and I don't want to add stuff I have no idea about and kill stuff ya know. But your right about containers verses in the ground I'm constantly watering my boxes. Ground stays moist. Anywho sorry for rambling on. Have a good weekend

So I see you got those marigolds planted. I grew some this year. Was hoping they would act kinda as a distraction plant for pests. Is this the reason you planted them. If so are there special places in my garden I should put them?
@CreekLivin3 жыл бұрын
I plant them because they are an awesome natural pest deterrent so I place them all throughout the garden. PLUS, they are awesome for my chickens. Them they bloom I deadhead them and break apart all the the seeds and the chickens go crazy. So healthy for them but also makes their yolks super rich. Never can have too many marigolds.
