Awesome! What camera and settings are you using to get such long videos? And what software and computer are you using to process them?
@jvsnotag4 күн бұрын
Thank you! I'm using a GoPro Hero 10, recording at 1080p and 24 fps. I use Garmin Virb Edit for data overlays and Davinci Resolve to render the final video. I connected the GoPro to two 10,000 mAh Anker battery packs. I initially planned to swap the battery packs at the second checkpoint but ended up doing it at the first checkpoint. I thought the GoPro had died due to the battery pack overheating, but in hindsight, it was likely the GoPro itself overheating in the Kansas heat. 😅 Next time, for extended recording in hot weather, I'll run the GoPro with the battery pack but without the internal battery. This should help solve the overheating issues, especially at 1080p and 24 fps.

@@jvsnotag I got a Insta360 X4 and used to do only audio podcasts for 15 years, but want to add video. Audio only might be harder in some ways, but the processing time on video is crazy. So I'm trying to learn what settings work best and since the battery only lasts 1.25 hours, I'm forced (luckily right now) to keep the videos shorter. That constraint is helping me make video processing faster. I'm having a TON of fun figuring out a new format and thanks for the info! I'm not sure if the Insta X4 can even run an external battery. Oh, but one feature is it won't overheat like GoPros. At least that's a feature they advertise. We'll see. lol. I ran it in 100 degree heat for an hour yesterday and it was fine.

@@ZenEndurance That's something I did hear about the GoPros and I didn't realize for myself until I hit Kansas! (I'm typically in the northern states.) I've been hearing great stuff about the Insta cameras. Video processing can definitely take quite some time. What's your podcast about? Enjoy and have fun with the video editing process. 😊

@jvsnotagАй бұрын
Correct! The 50 mile course didn't hit any of the muddy sections that were in the longer distances.

IIRC, all races shared the same route until mile 11 then the 25 & 50 went one direction and the 100 & 200 went another. Then the 50 rejoined the other longer routes around mile 35.

What tire width is optimal for Emporia area? I am new to gravel cycling; I love speed and not into bikepacking at all. I am leaning toward Canyon Grail - 40mm tires. but would that be enough to ride around Emporia, without going deep into the mud of Flint Hills?
@jvsnotag6 ай бұрын
As far as the 50 mile course went (which FWIW, avoided a lot of the mud the 100 and 200 milers went through), I think you could definitely run 40mm tires for the Emporia area.
