@BrockWorksInc

@@michaelpreston7384 We are custom home builders and build detailed digital twins (SketchUp models) of every project and estimate everything using Estimator for SketchUp. If you are doing re-roof or siding/windows, you may get all you need from the takeoffs from Hover. If you, for example, added a porch roof or other alteration, and model it in SketchUp, you could use Estimator to do all the new takeoffs. You can also use Estimator for kitchens and baths, tile, etc. You can get 3D components for fixtures (on the 3D Warehouse for example) and assign cost data to each component, then report the totals. You can use the Length, Area and Volume tools in Estimator for takeoffs as well.

Excellent videos, very informative. One little question though, at 08:30(ish) when you're deleting the perimeter to open up the volume of excavated space, could you not just turn off hidden geometry then single left click inside the boundary and delete?

"Why are you spending so much time on these models?" :) My question (at least in my head) on a lot of other KZfaq videos is "Why aren't you spending more time on these models?" I am trying to design my own house and so having it as close to buildable is my goal. Yeah, I can probably get by with not including some details. But what if the detail I chose to omit is actually come back and bite me later. Totally agree with you. It's important to have the detail there. Especially if you only have to create a profile and then just reuse it. Thank you for the videos!

The text/dimensions is from the PDF drawing that I imported (using PDF Importer). We import the floor plans to scale and then model on top of them, just like chalking walls on the floor :) The drawings came from my client's draftsman and it looks like Softplan to me (former Softplan user) - thanks!

With Sketchup the objects do not contain any information and it's not a true BIM program. When you draw a door in Sketchup, the program does not know the size, swing, how many hinges, size of jamb, whether it's a fire door or even what type of door handle it has. True BIM will allow you automatically create a door schedule about the information contained within the object. In true BIM all objects hold information.
@BrockWorksInc
@BrockWorksInc 5 ай бұрын
I agree with you that SketchUp does not natively function as a true BIM program, which is why we make extensions like Estimator for SketchUp that allow users to assign cost and and other data to components. So in your example of a door, we can specify, quantify and report all of the door elements you mentioned by making Components (and nested Components) that we can save/use over and over. We can also make the doors dynamic components so we can open and shut them (hinges opened and closed states with doors at whatever angle specified to open) with a click and change other parameters. There is literally nothing that we cannot model and offer BIM data in SketchUp, we do it on every home we build, it is just not automated or always parametric and certainly not "out of the box". Work arounds do exist though.

No, it is not a modeling software, BUT you can import the Hover model into a program like SketchUp and easily add decks to the model without having to model the house or have any dimensions (Hover model is accurate)

Thanks for video. great plugin info. Any advantage to lowering grade 8" vs raising the foundation and slab that you drafted?
@BrockWorksInc
@BrockWorksInc 6 ай бұрын
In our models, the houses are centered on the x,y.z axis and we rotate and elevate the site around the structure (vs fitting the structure to the site). If we moved the foundation, we would have to move the entire structure and could easily miss something, so it is easier to move the site model up/down.
