How’s the transom holding up on yours? I have an 85 model and I’m debating opening that can of worms.

Me and my son go fishing all the time. I love my orange Xfinity. My opinion do not buy a Proficiency black sniper spin cast reel. I did and threw out a few times, then took the pretty reel and put it back in box and returned it this next day. Notice I said pretty it is but that's all it is. Lol

Good restoration job! You may want to see about repacking/replacing (if necessary) those trailer bearings also before getting on the road. Good luck with the rig!

Nice restoration job! (Edit; In case of misunderstanding; I meant, nice restoration to come... not done... lol! Pardon my French Canadian-ness) Do you think these Stratos really need a 100+hp outboard or could they work with something smaller like a 50hp ? I have never owned a bass boat, I'm not looking for speed, and there aren't that many around here so I'm a bit clueless... and I have the opportunity to buy a 273 Vindicator for somewhat cheap-ish.
@lunkerlife7685
@lunkerlife7685 Жыл бұрын
On this 17ft boat, I personally think a 90hp would do just fine and possibly even smaller. This is as big as a motor I would want on this size boat. I’ve still not done anymore to it but I got some stuff in mind for a rainy day haha. Good luck on your search!

Rather fishing makes the best entry combos in general. Pure fishing has PFlueger which is good but Lew’s and Quantum are better.

The Mach 1 spinning combos are a Very Good setup. I have two. Both 6'9", Medium power with the 300 series reel spooled with 10#mono, and a ML with a 200 series reel spooled with #6 mono. The med. has a Lot of backbone and a fast taper. Decent sensitivity. It's a little stiff for a medium but pulls bass out of the weeds like a champ ! The ml has a fast taper and excellent sensitivity. Excellent for dropshot and wacky rig. The Mach 1 spinners have excellent drags and are very smooth and quiet. They do well in the wind also. They both have 2 years use on them. They run about $119 online. Money well spent. My sin throws the Mach Smash baitcaster combo,7'1" MH and loves it. Got a year of hard use in it. I have several other Lews spinning setups and they have not let me down yet. I maintain them yearly.

@@lunkerlife7685 Got a KVD GS5 with a KVD 300 spooled with #10 mono. Got 3 years of steady use on it. Fantastic! The Mach Smash spinners are very good also. Got them on Lazer GS rods. One 6'6" med. and one 7' two piece med. Very good setups. Two Mach 1's on Speed Sticks. I highly recommend these for a moderately priced setup. Just ordered a Wally Marshall Classic 6'6"" ML for trout.

Combos are convenient, but if you ever see a combo you like, before you buy it, look up online how much the reel alone costs. Most of the time you’ll see that the the reel alone on a 80$ combo is worth 70$. So you’re fishing a 70$ reel with a 10$ rod. And it sucks when you’ve spent that kinda money on a sexy new combo, but you find out the hard way that the real value that you paid for was mainly in the reel, and the rod was just what it came on. If you’re fairly serious about your fishing, a lot of times it’s good to just buy your rods+reels separately. The sensitive and durability you get from a stand alone rod is worth the extra 50$ or so. It may not look as sharp, but who really cares what you look like out on the lake. I can guarantee the fish don’t
@lunkerlife7685
@lunkerlife7685 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Great point. Combos are more of a way to market to new people. Instead of worrying about separate parts and prices, you get it all at one price. Of course with some sacrifice of quality as opposed to buying the the parts separately and getting good quality reels/rods.
