One space saver on the spiral layout would be to replace one or both of the loops with dual or triple gauge track. Ho/Hom/Hoe (OO/TT/N). Tillig make Ho/Hom and Ho/Hoe dual gauge 3-rail track and points. At the moment triple gauge would have to be custom built with option of 6-rail symmetrical or 4 rail common one side or 4-rail common outer rails. Without turnouts and points its easy to run more then one gauge together. But turn outs and points are electrically complex.

Interesting to see a resolution to carriage poor running. It’s easily the Achilles heel of the scale ! I’ve had to carve out bits of under frame ( none of which is noticeable from the exterior ) but I’ve also put clock repairers brass washers between bogie and body. Everything tickety boo now but it does make you wonder about testing and quality control. It’s not good if you buy your first train set and it doesn’t go round corners! As I have not used the HM7000 decoders on my TT:120 locos, I have found that only the 08 class really needs the keep alive due to it's short wheelbase. The A4, A1 & Class 50 are Zimo fitted and work reliably over Hornby points. My HST has ESU Lok Sound V5/V5FX decoders and again works flawlessly over Hornby points. The 08 however, does have issues. I have 2 08s, a BR Blue & one that I have converted to the Dock Tank. In both of these I have used a Zimo MS500N, sugar cube speaker & a TCS KA2 stay alive. With the KA2 I can get up to 25 seconds of sound and about 15 of sound & movement. I must admit that is is a bit of a squeeze to get it all in, but both work without any issue over all my lines. I wonder if Hornby will do a TT version of the stay alive, you really only need a few seconds to pass a dead spot or point so much smaller capacitors could be used. Re stay Alives and steam locos - I've taken to removing the often rubbish stock plastic coal loads, I then put other black electrical tape OR folding the void left by the coal with cling film, I pop the stay Alive onto of the cling film, add real coal, and essential trap it and hide it within the coal I add - obviously, you need to let it dry for a few days otherwise you risk a shot circuit.
