Just ordered a cherry Ibanez S470DXQM all original 100%. I had one many years ago and pawned it for dope, always regretted that after I got it together. Thinking about the plek but I don't know that it's worth it on a guitar in that price range. It would be more than half the price of the guitar. So just based on that probably not worth it. I do live in the bay area and there are 3 shops that do it here. But still with transport time and the fee it would be significant. I guess I will see how it plays first.

I own both tube amps and modeling amps, as well as the most traditional speaker cabinets with Celestion Vintage 30s inside. However, I must say that this whole debate is completely irrelevant because modeling and solid-state technology are the future. Modeling or solid-state amps, even the inventor of Dumble himself (a bit before his death), when asked if transistor amps would ever be as good as tube amps, responded that the question wasn't if it would happen but when. He emphasized that one day someone would make a transistor amp that sounds exactly like a tube amp, and given the way the market is evolving, I believe we are not far from that point. Even without considering that, basic modeling today is already excellent. Take anyone and blindfold them, and no one can tell the difference. Unfortunately, musicians often rely too much on their eyes instead of their ears. ( Most by the way jackoff way to much on gear all the time ( wether it’s new or vintage it’s the same ) instead of really playing guitar but that another debate) In any case, for guitar, the trend is to build things that are always lighter, better, more practical, simpler, and more intuitive. Even the country of origin hardly matters anymore because you can find quality in Europe, Asia, and even China, which wasn't known for quality products, is now able to copy or even surpass some American brands. We must recognize that American quality has significantly degraded, while Japanese quality remains stable at a high level. So, things are changing for the better.

The host of the vlog certainly presented himself as a knowledgeable yet approachable authority on plek machines. An experienced luthier will still be necessary to implement a portion of the results from the machine. I am probably wrong, but it is my understanding that a Plek rep trains the buyer how to operate the machine and implement its findings? The closest plek to my home in the Pittsburgh suburbs is 50 miles away. I have no idea if the shop is competent. The shop you visited knew what it was doing, and you felt the results reflected that. $300 is not cheap, but I can eventually absorb the loss if the plek operator screws up my guitar. Is it worth the gamble? Thanks for a great educational video.
@pureguitargear3935
@pureguitargear3935 2 ай бұрын
That is a great question. The only reason I felt comfortable with this shop is because they had the plek machine for over ten years. I don’t know of a way to actually verify if they are competent sorry. Cheers

I tell you. I have trashed so many tube amps I don't like to even think about it. Honestly I have learned to get the tone I need without tubes. Is it a compromise because of durability? That might be part of it. At the end of the day if I like the sound, the folks in the crowd will too. No way I will ever buy another PC tube amp. I wouldn't give 200 bucks for the new Gibson amp.

🙄 Mesa = Has NEVER point-to-point wired amplifiers, ever. This just seems like such a crazy take. Mesa builds some of the best cabinetry, tolex and fit/finish in the business. As opposed to Friedman/Soldano/Bogner that are all built in the same factory… Who says the tubes are “soldered to the board”? They’re not. It’s a design choice to direct mount the ceramic tube sockets to the board. It’s a SUPER sturdy board and all of the controls, jacks and failure points are flying lead so they can be easily fixed. You’re entitled to your opinion but… you are spewing “Brad the Guitologist” goofball takes. It’s expensive, yes. But show me a post or mention of “poor quality control”. Take a look at a 70s Boogie Mk1… all pCB and they were like 5k with inflation, still rolling with a simple cap job… guess Pete Townsend, Carlos Santana, Keith Richard’s, Metallica, John Petrucci, etc are all uninformed noobs? …and good luck buying a boutique amp and finding a competent tech who can get a proper schematic for some one off garage build you like from instagram.

Get that a silver face is better than new stuff. But some of the CBS stuff (silver face Fender amps) are a bit lacking compared to the black face versions. The story was CBS wanted to amps to 'hi-fi stereo' clean - not all, but some models. Good news the silver face amps can be modded back to black face if you choose to do so. For me it's up to the player and what you like. Had a couple of friends that bought matching Twins back in '67/68 which sounded very nice. They were fortunate with theirs as the Twin was one that didn't have circuit changes until a bit later. That's what I was always told - so I apologize if my info is wrong. I've got a '56 Pro that works so well with my 335 that I'm never gonna sell it. It'll go to my son who plays after I die.

I'd be curious as to how each fret sounds going up the neck? Does it get sharp, flat or stay the same once the intonation and setup was done. All notes should be correctly intonated. That's how it would be worth it on my side. So, fret placement accuracy would also throw the intonation off. I've seen it often when measuring the whole scale of a fretboard. It's only as good as the person that cut the slots and pressed the frets in to the right depth. No level or crown would be needed in that case.

I've been playing on stage since I was 14 I'm now 70 and still playing gigs. My first amp was tube and I've had SS amps throughout the years even modeling amps but I take my tube amp and an multi effects unit to the stage, studio and jam sessions. Nothing beats a tube amp. You would be surprised at the people in the audience that know and can tell the difference. In the ear monitors are a joke, you lose the natural stage sound. If you have a sound guy that complains about the stage amps, fire him and get a real one. Have a good one.

All these KZfaqrs talking as if the current $600 sunburst Epiphone Firebird V doesn’t have the exact same 9 ply walnut mahogany neck through, Indian laurel, CTS pots & poly lacquer made in the same qingdao factory. Over double the price for a USA assembled stronger magnet, Korean made kluson wd music tuners & a $130 Epiphone fb case. But throw a cool metallic color on & it’s like a revelation upgrade. Even the new thunderbird bass in the same colors are $849. Look at how much premium they’re charging for a case & tuners. It gets even worse with the $1700 Firebird V. Don’t pay these prices, buy a used Gibson, keep or flip at a profit & or wait for Epiphone sale in 9 months.
