2:04, I personally prefer to wear puttees, or jackboots when hiking, because they don’t just keep out bugs, they also keep out water and mud. Much tighter too - they aren’t likely to have gaps or holes in them, or even come loose (unless the puttees you got aren’t of good quality, just find a tutorial to learn what good puttees look like).

I tuck pants into socks which then makes any footwear tick-proof (special boots not required). Caution about using/storing permethrin around cats: It's deadly for them.

also you can just wear short pants and get used to collecting some ticks from your legs every few minutes :D leg hair is useful too - they crawl into it and you can feel them usually (and staying in your heart, feeling over thinking is amazing in that case too - you can just feel their presence somehow and then usually the mind thinks there are more because you felt it :P )

If spraying insecticide on your clothing, be sure to check how toxic it is to any pets you have. Some commonly used insecticides that are harmless to one type of animal can be extremely toxic to others.

I retired in 2022, and I can tell you the military doesn't teach any hacks for ticks. While they do have insect repellant, most unit supply don't go around advertising they have it, let alone hand them out without being told. Geesh, no regular infantry unit will allow you to tuck in your blouse out in the field. I agree permethrin is best. My favorite anti-tick hack is getting a full body massage after returning from the field.

Fom the land of mosquitos Im entitled to tell you that first becomes ticks and mosquitos, deer ticks are the ones that wakes right after snow melts carrying potential diseases. Mosquitos follows with the warming days swarming by legions after legions. Then when the summer is hot is time for the small blackflies and medium sized triangle and wolf flies and giant horse flies (different variations of flesh biting flies). After they have all devoured your blood during summer and fall is near and nights are getting dark and chill, then the moose flies kicks in and goes grawling into your back and head and dropping their wings. Only in the winter when below -20 farenheit there is no blood sucking sausage sucker alive and you may rest in peaces that are left behind of you. PS. Rapeseed oil is used against mosquitoes by lumberjacks here in Scandinavia. Works wonders at afterwork social gatherings as well. You should try that in military groups when the places are tight! You can become the high drilling officer!

Hes 100% correct. a lot of nonsense on KZfaq from fake wannabe peppers. but during Katrina they did go door to door tracking whatever guns they can. Communities that help each other do not need the government, and that is what the government does not want.

I actually leave a bigger mess under the toilet seats when sitting because of the splashes. Toilet seats are small here in Japan and it's unavoidable. I also have a tiny bit left when sitting and as soon as I stand, it starts to drain out onto my clothes which is annoying. So I prefer to stand not because it's a better choice, but because it's better for me. I'm also more conscious about cleaning up afterwards because I get a good look at the under part of the toilet seat and it makes me want to clean it regularly.

Another hack is to use several sprays with different chemicals : permertin, DEET, and one specially designed to kill ticks and flees (don't remember the name, but it's used on dogs) . Also you can add an electric or gas fumigator that evaporates permertin making your force field stronger 💪😅

The best bug repellant there is is Nessmuk's bug dope. There's like 6 ingredients and no permetherin ot deet. One batch will last you a year or two. I make it every year and never get bit or bothered by any insects, mosquitos, black flies, ticks, noseeums, nothing will bother you with this stuff and you don't apply it to your skin. You put it on your clothes, pack, tent, etc and you can soak cotton or hemp string in it and hang them around camp. Tou can watch the bugs as fhey fly into the fumes, they litteraly stop midair, like they hit a brick wall and immediately get gone. It takes about 15-20 min to make a batch that will last at least one year. A batch usually lasts me for at least two, sometimes three years. Look up a recipe and try it, you'll never use anything else ever again.

Learn, INSTEAD, to pay attention to your own exquisitely sensitive skin neurons. You DO possess the ability to tell when very slight touch occurs. Thus, feel TOTALLY free to wear shorts, et cetera, and drop them when you feel any tiny tickle beneath clothing. Tight belts may prevent the usual awareness of a bite, so tight pressure must be checked. [I have lived in and traveled the wild for MANY more years than almost anyone you have ever known, in all seasons and weathers from tropic to subarctic. Militaries have other interests than self-awareness, so if you are obsessed to the extent of ignoring your own body signals, you can wrap yourself in materials and toxic insect preventatives]

Thanks for this. Because I need something to protect my scalp, neck, face and exposed arms and hands from constant mosquito bites in my area I use Everclear either straight or mixed with rubbing alcohol to avoid bites. Works 100% even against yellow jackets. Mixed with any number of edible plant-based repellents is even better but backfires by *attracting* yellow jackets (learned the hard way). And dissipates in a couple hours or so. So requires frequent reapplication. I think I'll stick to Everclear concoctions for skin and this 'recipe' for my clothes. We have several farm supply stores in my ag town. So thanks bc I had no idea could buy this in bulk to diy.

I just rub coconut oil all over me before I go for a walk in the woods. It’s disruptive to ticks. I have a few times forgotten to do this before a walk and when I get home put it all over & in my hair. The ticks literally fall off.

I grew up in Florida. We used rubbing alcohol to clean the face, neck, underarms, and upper arm area, then applied a small amount of Vick's vapor rub to keep them away and it helped a lot. I used that trick while camping on Assateague Island but it didn't work as well. Those eastern l birds are relentless.

Great set up, similar to what I currently use. I do add a Millbank bag, it’s not a necessity but it does cut down the amount of times I need to back flush the Sawyer. A good length of silicone tube and a syringe is also good for collecting hard to reach water. I’ve used the tubing to set up ground filters too, and for drinking from bank filtration seep wells. A couple of emergency purification tablets, for when all else fails even the possibility to boil.

That's my secondary system design and cheaper, but I went with the MSR Basecamp. Same setup but uses the Trailshot as the filter so I can gravity feed or pump directly from the source. I noticed you're not using the quick connection to fill your bladder in place. Too much pressure to fill that way?

I have noticed that you almost never get ticks on you when using rubber boots in the forest, of course there is a chance that manage to get some crawling while foraging placing your hand in reach of em. Like we have TBE carrying variant here so you do check after every trip, with hiking shoes/boots I almost always get at least one on me so at least I live in the belief that they dont like the rubber surface.

It’s very difficult to feel ticks on your scalp. What is the best way to protect your head? I agree that bug bites, especially from ticks, is extremely important and worth exposing yourself to chemicals. Speaking from experience! Also, eating 2 cloves of garlic everyday is very helpful at keeping bugs from wanting to bite.

You know I've got to say thank you for the content that you put out. It's no bulshit like so many other sites put out there. You inspired me , I am self-taught off of your video content and a little bit of uncommon sense. I bought your blade 5 years ago. that steel is fantastic. It's sharpens easy and stays Sharp. The handle is comfortable. everything about you sir is pure quality. Thanks again. Would you be willing to put out a video about financial collapse and bugging out start to finish.? Everything that's in your bag down to small traps trapping rodents in the city, where to find water how to purify it all the rest of it. I want to see your concerns about being in a city and how you would get out of it. I would love to see you show how to use alum and pool shock to purify muddy water. I would also love to see you use a tuna can pushed flush into an ant hill and drop a coal in it and let the ants attack it and be cooked filling the Can in 15 minutes.
