I'm confused by your videos! You go on about sub 6.40. Are you at Duke and went sub 6.40? I'm from Australia. We were all doing sub 6.40s at the end of high school/secondary school (i.e., before college/university). What is the big achievement here!?

Your videos are more evocative of what it means to row, to train, and to compete than anything I have seen. My heart literally races and I am transported, for a few precious moments, to the feeling of being a 20-something year old on the water. This is art. Thank you from an old guy with a deep love of rowing.

It's been a hell of a workhorse for me these last three years! I've appreciated all your vlogs and constant drive to crate the smoothest production workflow, building out this rig to be efficient as possible has been fun (Kondor Blue's Nato-Nato mount was a huge win for me too). I almost switched from the Canon R to the Sony A7Siii until the C70 got released... but I'm still constantly pulled to the FX6. I wish I could live without internal ND's and go to the FX3 for size, but the speed I can change lenses is way too useful!
@justinuriahphotoАй бұрын
Definitely need two C70's with the same setup just different lenses. When I went to two bodies I never had to change lenses again and boy what a relief. I use the Canon 18-80 and 70-200 ENG lenses. They are my bread and butter on the C70's.

Don't be scared of RED, it's hands down the easiest system I've ever used, the only thing easier is probably the Arri 35. Leave your iso at 800, expose in-between the goal posts with a variable ND and you have a slightly better image. Using it is not the problem, it's losing the autofocus, built-in nd's, and more hard drive space. R3D is amazing in post, I love it, wish I didn't need autofocus as much as I do or else I would still be in the RED ecosystem.

That Swit battery to power the camera and monitor with out adding a cage and vmount is a game changer!!!!!
@EamonGlavinАй бұрын
It's been huge! I don't need rails, a vmount holding system, or a way to plug in the C70 to it (which means I'd still need a Canon BPA battery)

What you might not have realized is I didn't have a 3rd camera to film with since everything was either recording or being built on camera... which means I needed to use my new iPhone 15 Pro with BlackMagic App + Apple LOG as my overhead camera and it worked out pretty damn well!

I started posting more substantial videos in 2020, which attracted a few rowing companies and teams that have hired and supported me since then.

Nice video! I'm curious: I just find out you, so I don't know if you already talked about it! but, given that you use the C70 with a modest big rig, ever tryed the R5C? I use it with a similar rig, only 1 more usb cable to camera. I know exactly what you mean with that "poking" battery, and do the same with smallrig 99wh battery and it's very comfy. ciao
@EamonGlavin2 ай бұрын
Cheers Daniele! I have tried the R5C and it's a really solid camera and would be a perfect downsizing of my C70 + R6 Mark II combo.But my only issue is how spoiled I've become with the internal ND filters and re-mappable camera buttons that going back just doesn't seem possible for me anymore. I would love to use my SmallRig 99wh batteries, but I haven't been able to find the right mounting solution for me. If I find that AND a USB-C charged Canon BPA30 battery, we might be in business!

Awesome, thanks for this. What would be the issue with using a V-mount like the Smallrig V99 pro? has 8v and 12v plus two USB C and A... and charges off a usb C port. Tilta sells a tiny clip you can place anywhere on a cage or plate... I have both the R%C and C70 ... but I do not use the v-mount on C70 cause the battery is great.
@EamonGlavin2 ай бұрын
I actually have a few of those SmallRig 99s and would love to use them instead of my SWIT battery system! I've really tried to work them into the setup, but cleanly and easily mounting them has proven to be my biggest issue. I've tried a similar Wooden Camera V-Mount plate that could screw into the Kondor Blue top plate, but it's super slow process getting it to work just right and then it's too finicky for my needs. Side note, because I'm stuffing my camera case to the brim, the height of the C70 + Kondor Blue top plate + (just added) Kessler Kwik Stand doesn't leave me room for a rail system to sit underneath it or store elsewhere in case. That's why I hope the C200 Mark II will have a Red Komodo X style battery solution!

Interesting, Thank for sharing. I film Kitesurfing for a living and have the C70, The thing I hate though is no SDI, the HDMI sticks out and I'm terrified I'll snap it off. I like your battery solution though. Does that monitor have touch to control the camera settings too? Also I'm curious how much you make filming rowing, although I understand you probably would not want to disclose this. I'm curious if it is sustainable sport to film as the Kite surfing industry is always a bit of a struggle financially.
@EamonGlavin2 ай бұрын
Oh dude, how I would love SDI instead of HDMI, especially since my monitor has decided to inconsistently disconnect on my most recent trip with it (probably because the C70s HDMI port might be bent out of shape...). No camera setting control on the monitor, but hopefully one day -I just love how bright it is when I'm filming in broad daylight. I definitely wouldn't call it all that sustainable as of yet, but so far different projects pop up each year with high enough ticket price that it helps sustain me until the next one! Being super niche has allowed me to be the go to guy in rowing, and I'm working on building my newest project, @TheRowingNetwork, to be a more sustainable venture.

I started in rowing photography a year ago with a digital camera. Now I have a Canon T7i with a 55-250 lens. I look forward to having the gear you show here, so thanks for the video Eamon. It's great information to use as guidance on what to aim for. I really want to take awesome pics and videos that show the beauty and greatness of this amazing sport (and its playground here in Argentina, in the Delta of the Paraná River which is stunning as well). Keep it up!

Access is far more important than gear when it comes to making content! You'll get better content with your current camera/lens from a coach's launch that you would from a $50k setup from 500ft away.
@EamonGlavin2 ай бұрын
Hey that’s awesome! I started my filming journey with the Canon Legria and moved to the Canon Rebel T5i. I used the base kit all through high school, college, and a full year in Dublin before switching! Like Rob said, access is what will get you the better shots, gear will only help you enhance the skills you build.

@@EamonGlavin If you get a Peak Design cuff you can just stick one of their anchors on the cage for a quick attach emergency tether. It’s cleverly made, staying loose around your wrist unless something yanks on it (like a camera falling), then it tightens up. Even has a magnet so it wraps around your wrist when not in use. Now I sound like a PD shill…
