This movie came out when I was 10/11 (and sheltered- my family didn't show me a lot of movies at all). I had no clue who John Travolta was and fully thought Edna was a woman! The effects for this role were truly amazing, looking back as someone who now loves drag and SFX makeup i find it incredible!

Why is no one mentioning Divine???? The original and full inspiration for Edna and why John Travolta is even playing her in this adaptation

Well Divine died in 88 and this was made in 2007 , also I think every hairspray version has always had a drag queen play Edna, there is a little nod to Divine in this movie tho, idk if you noticed but John Waters the man who directed most movies Divine did, is also "The flasher who lives next door" in the "Good morning Baltimore" number at the beginning of the movie.

Dude, Katrina is freaking beautiful. Like how she really looks doesn’t even change that much. She looks like a nerdy girl, her teeth are kind of jacked up (So are mine) But in my personal opinion she is adorable and just the sweetest

I like how the body shape of edna actually put more lore. Edna’s insecurity is based on how she used to be size ten and how her neighbors think she’s sexy and pretty girl next door. As we can see in the musical is that she doesn’t want to get out of her house due to how she looks now and what other people especially to those who knew her back then think what she looks now. The fact that the actor put his input of edna being a plus size but with a figure of voluptious woman made edna’s past more real and alive. As a woman who in fact used to look slimmer back then and now gained weight but still kept that almost hour glass figure can see it happen on a fictional character. It gives life into that character and actually can see her story without actually saying much.
