Cryopreserved material can be stored for years in liquid nitrogen tanks. Just be sure that the tank remains charged with an adequate amount of nitrogen.

How long would it take a 6L container to leak liquid nitrogen until completely empty, if the tank was never opened once filled, since all liquid nitrogen containers leak at least some gas

Unfortunately, there is no good way to answer that. It will depend on the shape of the tank to some degree as well as the effectiveness of the design for minimizing heat transfer across it. Most tanks will have a spec sheet indicating the expected length of time they should maintain liquid nitrogen.

In most cases that is probably not necessary, but it does need to be stored in a location that minimizes the risk of it getting knocked over, dented, etc.

Malia, could you clarify what you mean by your question? It is important the cryopreserved gametes or embryos remain covered in liquid nitrogen for storage, so if intending to us nitrogen for other purposes by pouring it out, I would suggest using an empty tank for that.

@@maliabornitz9235 I think I understand the question now. Yes, you could remove the canisters from the empty tank that you will just be using to store liquid nitrogen. The rate of nitrogen evaporation out of the tank should not be appreciably different.

Nitrogen gas is non-flammable, so no issue from that standpoint. As always though, make sure the room is somewhat ventilated if occupied.

Just be sure the tank always contains some level of liquid nitrogen. The liquid nitrogen does not need to cover the top of the canisters/canes, as the nitrogen gas inside the tank is also sufficiently cool-so long as there is still liquid nitrogen in the tank.

Probably best to consult with the tank manufacturer about the repair options for that specific model tank. But in our experience, a damaged tank often simply needs to be replaced.

That is normal. You want there to be liquid in the tank. Nitrogen has a very low boiling and will constantly be evaporating ("boiling off") out of the tank, which is why gas will be observed as well. Just monitor the level of liquid nitrogen still remaining down in the tank and make sure that it never runs completely out of liquid nitrogen.

should the room storing LN2 have ceiling exhaust or low level exhaust one says ceiling exhaust as nitrogen is lighter than oxygen to so extract effectively at high level; another says the when accidentally pouring some LN2 on the floor, low level exhaust can exhaust out nitrogen which is just been vapourized, not letting them even have chance to reach mid/high level of the room

Good questions. For most small-scale situations storing/handling tanks on the farm or ranch (e.g. in a room with one or two tanks), the main thing is that there is ventilation into the area in general. If no new air is coming in, high levels of N that build up in the room could be dangerous. For larger-scale industrial settings that pose more of a potential for that sort of thing even with ventilation, we suggest consulting an engineer about ventilation design. It will take some situation-specific math to ensure both an adequate new supply of oxygen as well as efficient removal of nitrogen.

One should ALWAYS exteriorize the penis for a full examination. You caused extension with the ejaculator. This is not always the case. It is a real art to exteriorize the penis PRIOR to stimulation, but it is by far the best way to fully examine the penis. I had a bull arrive at my facility with a glowing BSE. We immediately found that the bull was missing about 7” of penis. I am not gloating when I say we probably perform more electro-ejaculations than anyone. Over 30 per day for over 65 years. We operate 3 elevated hydraulic chutes that are custom designed. They are 13’ long and weigh well over 5000lb. Further, we mainly deal with breeds that are far more difficult to work with than your AN bulls. Most are BR influence breeds: Brahman, Beefmaster, Black and Red Brangus, etc. But you never heard of us nor our history. Why? We live in a part of the world most tend to ignore. But there are more cows here than any other state. Texas.

A good question. We speculated we might see a drop on the percentage of bulls passing bull breeding soundness exams in some of our MU Extension organized events. However, results were fairly typical in comparison to previous years, with about 9 out of 10 bulls passing on average. Providing windbreaks (whether man-made or natural features like cedar trees) and a dry place to lay (e.g. some straw or cornstalk bedding) can sure help in limiting frostbite issues and overall cold stress on bulls.

We saw many issues after the storms. Substantial shifts in fertility and semen production. But we are not in the Midwest. We are in Texas. The extreme weather here was unprecedented and caused operations to shut down for a week. The issues were of course transient in nature. We store over 7 million doses of frozen semen. We harvest and evaluate semen daily. Since 1954.

Thanks for the video just used it April 9/2021 had 29 of 32 showed heat pulled ciders Wednesday had 12 in full standing by 9 am Friday AI d them Friday night at 8 pm and the rest of them Saturday morning at 8 am I have been A I for 10 years this is the best we ever done 90 % stickered always before did 7 day with cider with 65 % very glad I used the 7&7 Thank you

It is an excellent question that has not been researched for this specific protocol. I would still caution against it (as we typically do for other shorter protocols like the 7-day CO-Synch + CIDR), especially with modified live vaccinations.
