So most of the fullness is in the top sleeve, how much is needed in the undersleeve?

Hey Lee Marsh is this a high armhole depth? And if so are all the other measures taken here adequate to allow enough mobility of the sleeve? Or alternatively, is having a narrow and high armhole with a bigger sleeve at the bicep, although affecting the sleeve cap height a solution to high armhole and sleeve mobility? Some insights will be helpful.

You look fantastic in the clothes you make for yourself. You know your style and what you look good in. You found your niche in the bespoke field. Good for you. I see the value in making commonly used templates. Question: I realize you made a standard-sized collar/lapel template. What size range for a man does this work for? How does a tailor handle making the template significantly smaller or larger? Where would I find this information?
@darrell929410 ай бұрын
You draft the collar directly onto your jacket pattern, i really don't see what purpose drafting a stand alone collar pattern serves... it's not a one size fits all. I guess they give you a general collar shape and size to follow, so take note and use them in your draft if you're struggling.

Are you initially using a temporary doubled threaded chain stitch around the armholes before basting the sleeve in?
@sbaumgartner9848 Жыл бұрын
I don't know the actual type of lightweight shiny fabric you're using for the suit. I realize you're using a thin hand needle and basting thread on both sides, but don't the needle holes from basting show permanently on the top side, given you're pressing both the top and canvas layers a lot? I thought pressing set any machine or hand stitches.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Is there a particular type of linen to use, or is just a regular cheap linen fine? Or do you starch it to make it crisp?

@@LeeMarshsavilerow thanks! Would muslin be an acceptable substitute for silesia when doing cuffs? Its sorta hard to get ahold of 100% cotton silesia in the US to just experiment with unless I want to pay for 25$ for a yard for something that might not work out. I was checking out the Saville Row Jacket MasterClass, Do you run occasionally run promotions on the classes every now and then? It's a subject im greatly interested in but im currently 19 so things are kinda tight at the moment monetarily and you cant really find too much info out there on this kinda of stuff.

How can you add darts to the shoulder and arm scye of the canvas and not the actual fabric piece, it's making them different lengths.
@user-jy8km9xf7c Жыл бұрын
Regarding the arm scye by taking a dart out of the canvas you expect length in the cloth right. During the latter stages of construction when the sleeves get machined on you simply shrink the excess length/fullness and machine the sleeves. It ends up being clean cos the machine stitches holding the sleeve to the forepart nicely distribute the fullness assuming you've shrunk it properly. I guess lee marsh didn't know how to explain this as he's clearly ignored u and responded to other comments
