I thought you were going to dive under the bridge. This one is a hard fight. You literally couldn't out dive and out run or out climb or out turn him. You only have chance on head on shots and I'm glad you made him overshoot without getting killed. You basically did the only thing you could do and you did it very well. Bravo.

I thought about going under the bridge, but there were too many pylons holding it up. ;^) Because I screwed up the initial engagement, I really didn't have any other option but to attempt getting him to overshoot. I won't make that mistake again in the future when I engage a K-4 while flying a P-38. Thanks for watching.

Notice how the reflector glass takes on a prominent yellow splotchiness when your plane goes inverted? This phenomenon of the gunsight reflector texture being most apparent when the Sun is shining from underneath (as though the floor/hull is transparent) is a consequence of one or more factors nit fully appreciated by the creator of the sight. In some cases the sight glass goes quite 'milky' and hazy, significantly reducing contrast. Some windscreens suffer similarly, too. The opacity of the texture, its Ambient and Diffuse values in the texture's .mat file and the orientation of the model's surface normals play a role. In my mods to sights and for my new creations I take such factors into consuderation. Then there's no unrealistic enhancement of the glass that could occur only if the Sun could shine upward through the floor. ;) Furthermore, I do add a new element where aporopriate. And that is a reflection of the collimating lens. It dynamically varies in intensity as the angle of the Sunlight changes, being strongest when the Sun shines straight down, directly on the lens.

Thanks for watching, Douglas. I'm considering doing another series on being a wingman instead of the leader of a flight. Thanks for watching and commenting. One of the points of the "Aces" series was to not have any advantage on either side at the onset. I refrain from shooting at the opponent in the initial merge because I usually take them out immediately, and that makes for dull, short videos. ;^) I actually prefer head on shots when going up against opponents who have a more maneuverable plane than mine. Getting sucked into a turn fight against a more agile opponent usually doesn't end well. You invariably wind up "low and slow", and that is not a good place to be in any of the American planes, especially when going against Japanese planes. American planes aren't that good at turn fighting. Some of them do "okay", if you keep the speed up.

Anatomy 109K4 low speed and climb advantage. P51 high speed manouvering advantage. It looked like the a.i. pilot was trying to force a flat spin. You held it together long enough to get the victory. Air to air is more than a one circle fight. Well done, thumbs up video.

Thanks for watching, Douglas. He made an atypical move that turned out to be a mistake. He turned away from me at the top of his loop-over, instead of coming down onto my tail. That gave me an opportunity for a shot, (the low speed turn with flaps facilitated it), and I sure wasn't going to give him another chance.

Probably the most influential WW2 flight sim of all time. The breadth & scope of what the original IL-2 does is just spectacular even today. I was totally awed at this masterpiece when it originally released and subsequent expansion games like IL-2 Forgotten Battles and IL-2 Pacific and finally IL-2 1946. The new IL-2 Great Battles pales in comparison. Keep the vids coming they are great.

The standard button combination for cycling through the different cockpit views is "Ctrl+F1". Should work when flying a mission, or watching an ntrk. file. If you want to eliminate all the HUD info, then you'll have to change some settings in "setup" "general", and go into "controls" and map the "Toggle Speed Bar" function to a button on your keyboard or flight controls.

By keeping your virtual head practically pressed against the headrest you unnecessarily handicap yourself. In a higher G turn the lower edge of the sight hides your target when you set the correct deflection. If you were to lean forward you could see the sught's reticle AND the upper cowling surface simultaneously, thereby affording a far better sight picture that keeps a Zero in view during a deflection shot under positive G. I cannot but marvel at the number of videos in which the player fails to avail himself of the full range of virtual head movement. Even simply cycling the 'gunsight view' would be a help here, as it does position the viewpoint closer to the sight. Think of it like this. You're looking out the kitchen window while leaning against the opposite wall. The view angle of the outside is not large. Walk up to the window, and the Vista outsidw expands enormously. Real fighter pilots sit farther forward than is represented in most of our game's cockpits.
@glennledrew8347
@glennledrew8347 2 ай бұрын
Good to see that, unlike too many players, you are not keeping your virtual head practically glued to the headrest. 😅 Rather, you're making use of the Z-axis (fore-aft) component of 6dof movement so as to lean away from the headrest and thereby obtain a better view aft (and enjoy a better view through the gun sight.) I tend to bang on endlessly on this topic, groaning when I see videos where the player is suffering a quite needless restriction to visibility of the outside world. It amazes me how so many folk don't appreciate the benefits of setting up and using their head tracking gear to full advantage.
@tomhighway1952
@tomhighway1952 2 ай бұрын
After using the track ir since Christmas, I've found that I don't prefer it. In fact I dislike it considerably. I fly well with it, but my gunnery skills suffer when I use it. I miss a lot of head on and crossing shots that I normally make when I'm not using it. Can't seem to keep my head still enough to line up those quick snap shots. So, although I keep it on whenever I'm flying, it's usually "paused", and I just use the hat switch for views. I have the head movement functions mapped to my throttle. So I can do head up/down, left/right, and forward/backward along with the hat switch. It works pretty well. I do use track ir when I'm making a video though.

@@tomhighway1952 You should definitely look at setting up a bigger deadzone in the camera as a replacement for that, with a bigger deadzone the camera will center even if your head is moving a bit and you can adjust it so that that you don't accidentally misalign your shot but can still glance around quickly
@tomhighway1952
@tomhighway1952 2 ай бұрын
@@KvltKommando I figured out how to do that the day after I posted that response. ;^) It perturbs me that the Track IR5 doesn't come with a manual, and that I couldn't find one on line. I also couldn't find a decent tutorial on line. At least not one I could understand. But I finally figured out how to make a dead zone in the center, and I'm enjoying the head tracker a lot more now. After some more practice, I'll probably like it a lot.
