I don't use windows a lot, but I am trying to get SDRAngel working on my drafting computer. There is so much missing in the Windows version. I can't figure out, if they just didn't build it for the windows installation, or the plugins I'm after only work in Linux. I want the KiwiSWR and Map plugin. ADSB his hard to watch without the 3d Map.

The Windows version is 100% compiled the same as the same Linux Version. Which "features" or "channels" are you feeling are not there? You could also have some issue with video related to OpenGL or something in Windows environment creating an issue, but I find that is rare on a modern (post 2019) computer. Message me direct as I am working on a video I may want your input on at [email protected]

Have a look under "preferences" and the bottom of the list should be "Save All" The trick is before you exit out, get all your workspaces and other features/channels set the way you want, then save. When you open SDRangel back up, it should start up how you last saved things. I am going to do video soon about this so keep an eye out.

I ran APRS faithfully for 10 years while driving over the road. After all that time I got bored with it. People not answering messages, even if they weren’t driving. Digi-Peaters running the standard 100hz tone, not using proper SSID’s, & several other problems are what I saw with it. I tried to correct these things with some stations but got told mind my own business. You made a small mention of the digital mode M17. Between D-Star, Fusion, DMR, P25 & NXDN why on earth do we need another digital voice mode? There’s no radios manufactured for it yet, that I know of. As well as the thousands of TG, reflectors and rooms with nobody in them I just don’t get it.

If you click your mouse into the frequency box, try using your up and down arrows to change frequency and then use your left and right arrows to adjust to frequency of choosing. One thing that may take getting used to is display is in kHz and MHz, so 000,007,480khz instead of 7.048 MHz. When you get higher in frequency, like 1.090 GHz, the display will read as 001,090,000 kHz. Hope this helps. As you use your arrow keys, you should see the background color change on that digit too.

Do you know what the difference in performance would be if you made it as a delta loop versus a square loop?
@hvdnmedia
@hvdnmedia 2 ай бұрын
The feed point and mounting arrangement would need to change. If a square loop is fed at the corner, it would be close to 50 ohm and each side would be close to 18 feet, so would need to be mounted like a diamond shape if using one center support and some spreader between the two far points horizontally. Feeding the loop at the side would give it different polarization compared to top or bottom. For radiation related performance, it depends how high off the ground it would be (if we are sticking with 20m operation). It may work slightly better due to capture area but then this is a different type of antenna that takes up a bit more room. Nice user name btw. :)
@NsixVHF
@NsixVHF 2 ай бұрын
@@hvdnmedia IIRC, the Delta Loop is about 200 ohms at the feedpoint. So another benefit would be that with the square loop you don't need any sort of unun or matching network.

How do you think they afford to sell these things so cheap? Because they barely build them with the bare minimum. Hams should be ashamed of themselves for buying this junk. Fun to experiment with I suppose. But that’s all they’re good for. So this radio is illegal to use in the US, minus hams I suppose. But I believe that’s a serious gray line we’re floating on. The purpose of being exempt isn’t to buy cheap Chinese non-type accepted junk. It’s to build our own equipment to experiment with. They will never try to improve on this stuff. It increases the cost too much. They’ve had years to improve on these radios and they refuse to do so. If they haven’t done it by now, they’re never going to. God forbid the put metal shielding on anything, it’ll cost them an extra $.0001.

I’m curious why you didn’t test one of the most popular radios Anytone 878 UVII Plus? I know the one Alinco you tested is a derivative of that. Several years ago I used to check into the STEM net. One night I followed a couple of you guys over to another talk group after the net and listened to you call me a “radio snob”. “Who does that guy think he is ?” Call me a radio snob if you want it doesn’t matter. Thanks for the review comparing and showing the design and structure of the Ailunce, (Retevis), HD2. As I told you previously, I have had an HD1 for a while, which I think came out in 2018. It seems like it was one of the earlier DMR HT's aimed at amateurs and not just the commercial ETSI market. I did not know the FCC ID no you asked me about previously was not real. I find mine outputs about 8 watts on VHF, and about 6 watts on UHF. It took me a while to understand the DMR Code Plugs and do my own. Also, I took some on line Tait DMR on line courses a few years ago, which is more DMR commercially oriended, going into Type III DMR, and Lan, than with amateur uses. 😊

Nice video and thank you for the shout out. I like the way you did the “air gap” test. The FCC does specify that it’s measured at the radio output thought. One thing to consider is that the transmitting antenna may not be a match on the harmonic frequencies and attenuate the signal in those ranges. Also, you might want to increase the span so you can see if there is a third harmonic. Thanks for sharing that video 👍
@hvdnmedia
@hvdnmedia 5 ай бұрын
3rd and 5th harmonics will be done in a follow up video later this week. Wanted to hit any harmonics in the 200-300 area first as that sometimes gets overlooked. But, I foroget to mention that. Standard lab tests also can be manipulated based on power level of transmitter to trick some compliance tests only looking for dbm but ignoring what level of attenuation is used to say knock down a 1W, 10W and higher. I think this is how "some vendors" sneak crappy product on to the market. Most vendors do list SAR reports on FCC site. The FCC ID does not show up, just like the HD1 which had pre certification ID and never got a final one. HD1 didnt get its ID until almost 2 years of being on the market and available for purchase.

I've seen more than one manufacture also label their radios as "GMRS" (usually without Part 95 certification). This seems to be some legal flim-flam to sell non-Part 97 (ham) compliant radios. In my experience, a large amount of the "budget" radios are so dirty that a box of Tide wouldn't clean 'em up. I've also had some discussion with one manufacturer, who pretty much indicated they didn't make the radios, they just put a pretty case/label on radio guts, and they couldn't afford to actually test radios. As @thesmokinape mentioned, the official tests are not "air gapped", they would be direct to the RF input of a test device. Almost all test devices(even the TinySA) can specifically account for attenuation (by mathematically subtracting it out), so input attenuation does not shield any potential issues. I can't speak specifically on the Tiny SA, but even a sub-1000$ SA can detect signals down into the -150dbm range, so after subtracting attenuation, it still will show a clear indication of true signal levels. The other issue as TheSmokinApe mentioned is how well of a match the transmitting antenna is on the harmonic frequencies (which it probably won't be - therefore reducing power on the harmonics). Air gap testing, while a "real-world" look, doesn't rule out background noise and RF that could actually make the radio look worse than it is. A more interesting real-world demo is to tune another HT to the harmonic frequency at the same time. I've tested radios that were so bad, the harmonics at 293 and 439 we clear and readable on other HT's. Never will you find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy...
