The closest tower is about 7-8 miles away through the national forest. It lacks a clear line of site.

What macros/exchange did you use? I got on RTTY for the contest last weekend and had a blast. Hopefully I can activate with RTTY and PSK this coming weeked. 73 VE3GKT

I just setup basic macros and then thankfully can type faster than PSK31 can send so other than calling CQ and the exchange I type everything else because I enjoy the conversation.

I am just pouring over this video Travis! Just started FT8 a few weeks ago and had my first POTA activations last week. I am learning so much. I see you do not have Grid Tracker upended. I watch Grid Tracker and can have it set up to see the POTA people.....but have no clue how to "call" them for a P2P. Looks like HAMRS will help you do this?

I believe Grid-Tracker is a windows APP. Being a Linux user I have yet to find an alternative to that piece of software. Generally I don't need it. The new version of WSJT-X lets you put POTA into the DX Call box and it will highlight the signals that decode with POTA in it. That's how I do my hunting.

If I'm playing radio in da woods (or camping...or have plans outside) there is a good chance that it will rain.

Great video. Just did my first SSB activation, now looking to do FT8 POTA as well. Lots of questions - the map application is grid squares? Also is the logging automatic once a contact is made? Looks like fun to me once it's all figured out!

Isn't that just Glorified packet ? LOL Once I get My tower back up I think I am going to back in to an active state again. Cause I am Retiring too.. I've only been using My 1.2 Ghz FM Video gear once a year out at Nine Mile For Badger State Nordic. Thanks Trav. Mike M. P.s. When the sun goes down at Camp that is when I love to sit/sleep outside falling asleep watching the fire..

You could say it is a form of packet radio. I enjoyed working VHF/UHF packet when I lived in Wausau PSK31 is very similar. Glad to hear you will be back on the air soon! 73!

Maybe the next time I activate a park you should come with. You'll learn a lot (that is if you're still interested in getting your license)
