O solo do Trombonista meu Deus é de outro mundo. Tudo é bom.

The Live at Jimmy's recording of this chart is a feat in audio engineering. I saw MF play this live so many times I've lost count. I'll never tire of it.

Maynard always had such great musicians in his band. That was one of the things that made him so popular, people came to see him Maynard’s guys.

Even if you’re not a big MF fan, you have to recognize that this was yet another great Maynard band. Bruce Johnstone, Allan Zavod, Bob Summers, Don Hahn, Rick Petrone, Stan Mark, et al…all great soloists/and or lead players. Not sure any big band of the era had a better lineup.

Although Herb Alpert and his warmer, mellower sound is my personal all-time favorite trumpeter I respect and admire these two virtuosos who make it look easy. In the 1960s Hirt had a few pop trumpet hits such as "Java" and "Cotton Candy" during the TJB's golden era. One thing I noticed is that when Al Hirt was playing he was pressing the valves with the 2nd knuckles of his fingers, something which I've seen Herb Alpert do many times.

In 1974 he put on a show at Bowling Green University. Our highschool band went. I played trumpet and during the day him and his horn section had a little trump players seminar. Amazing to say the least. Been a fan most of my life.

When I was 15 I saw MF at Austin’s Armadillo World Headquarters in 1980 right before it closed. During the break I stood in line to buy a tshirt and was slow to decide on the size. Stan Mark hit impatient and threw a shirt at me and said “here, this is the size you need!”….Hus grumpy nature made him my eternal spiritual animal. But Lynn Nicholson is my non-MF idol.

I knew him well in the 80s around this time. Hell of a great guy. Saw him live maybe 3 times, he was more like a cool grandpa to me. Have so many great memories of him and his awesome family. At the time I didn’t realize I was around music royalty
