I think the idea of non-removable antennas for digital modes has to do with power output. The logic, however flawed, is to prevent a permanent digital repeater taking using 50W to take up the entire bandwidth of a channel with something like Packet or APRS messages. I think bringing things like Packet, APRS, Audio Morse Code (not CW) and Winlink/RMS would be great enhancements to GMRS, especially for those who cannot hear or speak.

The UV-5RM/UV-5RH seem to come in 2 main variants: the variant marked as 5RM appears to be a dual bander with airband recieve, whereas the 5RH marked ones tend to be tribanders without airband reception. One bodge to account for poor power filtering would be to use half-wave antennas, as the odd harmonics would see much higher impedance.

So im getting into overland started doing more and getting into the group trips. So I need new comms as more are running GMRS over FRS. So here’s my question. I want plug and play. Simple. Want a handheld but with a vehicle kit(magnetic antenna connection, aux plug/power, and hand held mic). So been looking at the GMR2 + from rugged or the B-Tech GMRS pro. Whats the opinions?
@GadgetTalk4U6 күн бұрын
Not sure you'll find kits for HTs. You'll need the HT, a battery eliminator, and perhaps an SMA to SO 239 adapter. I'd get a cheap hand mic/ speaker mic, too. Then select an antenna and mount. Bracket or mag mount will depend on your vehicle's roof. The BTECH radio transmits data (GPS position) so its antenna won't come off. Good radio, just not for your purpose. I started with a Baofeng since all the accessories were easy to get. Link is to a video I did about going mobile - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oa99et2gxMDPio0.htmlsi=7j1xW66Bou5J1q_1

@@GadgetTalk4UI decided to go with Rugged GMR2 plus GMRS/FRT with there magnetic antenna, hand held, dash mount and the USB charger kit to plug into the truck. This seems the best plug and play option and can transition from hand held to vehicle mount by switching antennas and removing hand set

Jim, ordered my TD H3 tow-pack in the middle of April, they said it will be delivered in the middle of June, hum a long time but with the excellent reviews of this H3 I am okay with it. So far, I am overly impressed with Tidradio customer support. Main reason, I purchased the two-pack then a few weeks later Amazon showed the TD H3 with four batteries or $5.00 more than my original order. Makes sense to have the four-battery kit, thus I contacted Amazon to cancel my order an purchase the four battery kit. Amazon contacted Tidradio, Tidradio contacted me asking I do not cancel my order, they would send me two extra batteries at zero cost. Wow, the other day two TD H3 batteries arrived! Now I must wait for the original order for the two-pack to arrive. In my mind, Tidradio provides amazingly good customer services. Your explanation of their firmware upgrades is outstanding, Tidradio is firing on all cylinders!

A fellow senior citizen "coffee pal" heard about this radio and asked me some questions, like I would know or something! Anyway here are his questions... 1) Does the dual VFO allow reception of both frequencies at the same time? 2) Does the radio scan, or do you manually have to go through the programmed frequencies?
@GadgetTalk4U11 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. The answers to your questions are yes and yes. Dual watch allows monitoring both selected frequencies and you can scan the channels or a frequency range.

I purchased the Tidradio because I need more range than available with .5w family channel units. After watching this video hoping to understand all the features and menu items I am still very confused. Perhaps this is not truly for a "for newbies" video. Example: your explaining wide band vs narrow band just added to confusion on my part.

I bought a pair of these, and they were terrible. One had defective LEDs. Both needed to have their squelch set to maximum so as to be able to scan at all without noise stopping them at every channel. And both stock antennas came with SWRs that were unacceptable. One was 3.5, and the other was 20. Yes, 20 SWR.

Hi, thanks for the review of this baofeng radio.Why is it that some Amazon and KZfaq reviewers mentioned that this particular gmrs radio has 7 watts power output, and you’re saying it’s only 5?

I have the Baofeng model of this radio - essentially same radio. Nice radio but… does not support Chirp, uses proprietary software for programming. Same as the Baofeng GMRS-15pro. I purchased RT Systems for programming. I programmed 30 GMRS repeaters within 100 miles of my location. If CHIRP was supported this would be a 5 minute task. But with the proprietary software and RT systems both, it took over an hour to hand program. Very difficult. Nice radio but I would not recommend any radio that does not support CHIRP.
@GadgetTalk4U18 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. The issue with Chirp is that it is user supported and most of the radio inputs to their list are ham radios. It seems like some manufacturers are more interested in getting their GMRS radios listed than others. You're not wrong.

That Baofeng UV-5R and Quansheng UV-5R Plus are not FCC Part 95 certified radios! Meaning that you can't use 'em for GMRS! However, it's not like the FCC will hunt you down for it. Don't boast about it and you will be fine.

In order to get a more accurate SWR reading, I made a ground plane plate out of a piece of 8"x7" 26 gauge aluminum flashing. With a 19/64" hole drilled dead center, it fits perfectly between the double male adapter and the antenna you are testing. Using this method I got perfect SWR readings on GMRS channels with two different radios using my 771G antennas, confirming - to me at least - they are optimized for those frequencies while non-GMRS frequencies had higher readings.

Hi, I don't understand much English, but it clears my doubts, on the website where I'm looking to buy there are 3 ads, one for the normal uv-25 version says it has 5-10w for 40 dollars, and another ad for the uv-25 L and pro version It says it has 15-25w for 60 dollars. And all the same buy the cheapest uv-25 for 40 dollars? or the versatile L and pro and even higher? And in the test, how many watts of maximum power did it give? The ad says 15-25w.
