This just looks like a visual overload on the senses. I'll stick with IIDX and DDR

Sound Voltex looks f*cking awful to play and sounds atrocious. Stepmania had a good solution for solflan in the form of constant speeds like C200 or C400 which totally negated having to worry about stops or drastic speed changes. I wish they would have done that in the arcade games.

I found EZ2DJ machine got a better sound/ bass than Beatmania. Also they are the one who has a long note before beatmania plus having a pedal makes it so much more fun.

Very appreciative of this video as a brand new Arcaea player, since I unlocked the anomaly songs completely out of order (I went Grievous Lady, Tempestissimo, Fracture Ray). Thanks, man!

@losermanwins4338 One video I want to see from you more than anything is MUSIC DIVER. It sits in a weird state of being both alive and dead depending on region and locations in North America. However I feel like you have better knowledge and insight into this than anyone would that I would want a video about it.

My local arcade got a ParaParaDancing machine somewhere around 2004. I played DDR at the time, but the ParaPara dance was too much for me 😅 however, some of my fellow DDR players enjoyed the game while we had it and it wasn't uncommon to see them jumping back and forth between one game to the other.

awfully late to the party but ongeki features negative scroll speed on occasions! afaik you never have to read a map in reverse but there's some funny holds in some songs where the play field starts scrolling in reverse halfway through (happens at the end of take)

After I unlocked every song I don’t do world mode any more. Not much point besides unlocking new characters with mid abilities.

This brings back so many memories since 1999, myself, I had on occasions played EZ2DJ series from 1st SE up until 7th Trax, (I liked 6th Trax the most btw) the series has strange hype and appeal back then and is imo so much visually different (in style and charts) than Beatmania IIDX

This is one of the best games ive played, period. Chapter 2 is amazing and Chapter 3 is somehow twice as good, all the elements of the gameplay and story fit together so well, so hyped for chapter 4.

I actually have all these games and a Japanese Playstation in my house now. They're my sister's and haven't been played for years, but they're all there. I remember hearing little things in pop music from Beatmania years after my sister and her boyfriend played it.

As a North American person slowly treading into South Korean content, I can say this was very interesting to watch. I actually discovered BERA before this and had many many questions - but now thanks to this I understand.

What a video! I've been playing IIDX since around Red/happy sky, and have always been curious about the EZ games, but never new where to start or find any info. I might give some of these games a shot now.

Interesting that you only mention Nostalgia, the official spiritual successor, and never bring up Synthesia, which is also a more modern spiritual successor (though not intentionally) because it's interesting to compare their differing philosophy on a modern take, as Nostalgia focuses on being more of a simple rhythm game than Keyboardmania while Synthesia focuses even more on being like a piano - they both went in opposite directions compared to Keyboardmania's slightly more middle ground approach.

Fun video, thanks. I've been enjoying rhythm games from Korea since finding DJMAX Fever on a very short timed UK PSN licenced deal. EZ2ON Reboot R being released internationally on Steam has been brilliant, and it has become a game I play constantly and follow closely. Was nice to have a walk through of each of the editions.

Another reason why the game sputtered away: This was Naoki's pet project and he had his falling out with Konami within the first year of the arcade release.

You should check out Rhythm Nation. It’s a Pop’n clone by ICE that’s pretty fun. It’s also the only rhythm game within a 70 mile radius of me so I’ve played it a lot.

It was very interesting video and your analysis was great too. I hope to known EZ2 Series to other people in the another country. When I travel overseas, I have never seen EZ2 Series, however I hope that it will be widely known so that many people can see EZ2 Series many other countires in the future. Thank you for making excellent video.

I recently got into EZ2On via impulse buying it in Steam with 0 context about the game. Obviously I knew it was a re-release of something, but I had no idea that the series had such a long and tumultuous history. Great video, now I finally know what all those DLC packs are.

A big thing people leave out is the problem of music licensing. Upgrade kits required Konami to acquire licenses up front, and those licenses were for Japan. Network service gets them the ability to pay rights holders per play and per song so they don’t need to negotiate perpetual licenses, and they can remove licenses that are cost prohibitive to maintain. Konami cannot simply bring its games to other regions without solving the licensing problems. It’s that simple. The reason why you see a JASRAC and NexTone logo and license numbers on these machines is because the record labels want their cut. These licenses are often hard to get across borders in-general. J-pop on Spotify USA is a reduced catalog from Japan for a reason. It is certainly not at all as clear cut as Konami just not wanting money. They need to be able to pay rights holders for licenses outside of Japan and still make money on their machines. Lifetime licenses are out of the question, which is how you get to e-amusement as a mandatory service that operates in a very limited way outside the home country.
