The short version of the Car ident followed the clock. The night before the Dog ident was used (with a wipe to black). Reg Sanders started to use an announcerless ident at closedown after the clock from September 1994, Jane Westrop began doing this shortly after (November 1994 onwards). When the NTA playout was opened (end of March 1995), an ident was used every night (except for some occasions) after the clock at closedown.

I think the music is from the piece dear general they apparently play this at 6 am on loudspeakers it was on the UK documentary Michael Palin in North Korea.

Hi there, what you hear is a riff from The Song of General Kim Il Sung - also used on the Voice of Korea radio service. If you're interested, there's an online stream of KCTV at kcnawatch.org/korea-central-tv-livestream/ - the stream quality has been glitchy and hard to watch lately but hopefully they fix it soon.

Presumably of course Test Card G was shown instead here rather than Test Card F at the time. Of course, later than here in April 1983 was the last time really that the BBC showed these as such full time as from the May that year Pages from Ceefax really took over as what was shown during the closedown times too. Hi Bruce, the PM5544 was generally used by the regions (Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow) for opt-outs or when the network circuits were required for programme transfers etc. It generally was only used by London when the Testcard F slide scanner broke down - which used to happen fairly often until the digital version arrived in 1984. Thank you for this of course. Colour bars and music-the first of which is La Bamba I am sure too. Very nice indeed! Colour bars used to be shown here in Britain/the UK at times in closedown; rather than Test Cards F; G; or ETP1; as well as Ceefax at other times on the different channels now then as it used to be of course. Well done!

I think that that was mostly in the 1970s and 80s really; as by later in the 1990s onwards most channels here had become 24 hours anyway; I am not sure about abroad though?

I don't know whether this was the end of school programmes as I think they were still on BBC1 at the time here. Daytime on Two took over in September 1983 onwards on BBC2 as far as I know. Thank you!

Thank you for this of course. So nice to see BBC2 of old with Ceefax pages with music after Daytime on Two at the time. If only it was like this now though! Well done too for the upload.
