I saw "Jezebel" and while I admire Bette Davis a great deal, not only could she not have pulled off Scarlett, Bette could NOT (speaking as a Southerner myself) pull off a believable Southern girl. She thought it was "insanity" that she didn't get the part, whereas I think it's insanity she was ever seriously considered for it. The fact that Vivien was unknown definitely DID work in her favor, and what with all her stage work, she was able to reach depths no one else at the time could have. You can SEE Scarlett's devious little mind working every time it looks like something she wants is about to be taken away. Vivien was able to do SO much with her eyes, with a single lifted eyebrow. She is the reason that "Resting Bitch Face" is a thing. God bless her and may she rest in peace.

When people fancy ruining a movie, they find all kinds of things to say. It is the end of the trilogy, just accept it as what it is.

Clara Bow literally pops from the screen whenever the camera is on her, and in her films that means almost all the time. watch as many of them as you can find. you won't be disappointed.

Goodfellas is better than all 3 Godfathers put together. It is the best mob movie ever made, Pesci's psychotic Tommy is on par with Hopkins as Lector and Ledger as Joker and more believable than both.. It is Scorsese's magnum opus. Sophia was good as the daughter, the problem was the script. Simply put, its fk'n boring.

Issues with the movie from highest to lowest: 1. The story wasnt nearly as captivating 2. Lack of Duvall. 3. Michael was not Michael. It felt like Michael was a completely different person. Yes, legitimate business and age blah blah blah whatever but that cold calculating mind that he once had was nowhere to be seen. Like he turned into some huge p*ssy. 4. Sofias acting was very off-putting. Physically, as a beautiful Italian girl, she's perfect. BUT her acting was so flat. 5. The cousin love story was gross and uncomfortable. I mean, they couldn't have came up with something better? 6. Andy garcia had no place in this film. Hell, his character was annoying, unhinged, and immature. And suddenly, from one night to the next, he develops into a calculating Godfather worthy character with little to no personal development? My ass. Felt rushed as sh*t. So rushed. Let's not blame Sofia for this mediocre Godfather film. Shes the scapegoat. Like another commenter mentioned...winona ryder wasnt fixing jack sh*t. I cant even imagine her in this film. Probably would have been even worse.

Let me preface this by saying that I love both Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. To the extreme! I own many of their films on dvd and watch them often. Both were absolutely fabulous actresses and always gave their all to the camera. They are the prototypical divas of legendary Hollywood. That being said, I must say this: that despite Bette’s much ballyhooed training as a classical actress, I find Joan’s onscreen persona to be no less compelling and certainly just as enthralling as Bette’s. The latter was always eager to point out the differential in the pedigree of their origins, but let’s face it, they both lit up the screen in equal measure. The most exemplary evidence of this is, of course, What Ever Happened To Baby Jane, when they worked side by side. To watch how they compliment each other in their particular characterizations is truly a beautiful cinematic feat to behold. Joan and Bette are equal in this film. No one of them is better than the other. For all of Bette’s outlandish histrionics, there’s the subdued Joan to keep us anchored in some semblance of reality. A dream collaboration. Which brings me to my belabored conclusion. Joan was a great actress in her own right and fully deserved every accolade she ever got. So eat your heart out Bette! You may have got two statues, but Joan got one too…Damn it!

I’m a fan of biopics and I think we all realize that in traditional bio pics, the gist of the story is true, but there may be situations that were exaggerated or even made up to move the story along. I do take issues with so-called bio pics where the vast majority of it is not true, but presented as fact. To me that isn’t a bio pic. I liked what you said in your video, it’s a radicalized fiction.

In my early 20s I discovered this album and wore it out (digitally, many years after she had passed). The final note of You Go to My Head where she belts out "rain or shine" a little bit pitchy ( 23:30 ) is honestly one of my favorite parts of the show.

I must say I didn't expect to hate her acting as much as I did. The most terrible best actress performance I have ever watched. Just the way she delivers "Flo" five times per minute in Ziegfeld makes me shiver.

One correction: Anna May did do screen tests for Lotus multiple times. The studio’s casting director was not satisfied, and handed her another role even lesser than Lotus, essentially asking Anna May to play a supporting g role to a supporting role. Of course she refused and then left for the real China to do what the Good Earth production team could not offer to the movie-goers or her

Ok, so here's my 2 cents. I loved Sophia as Mary. She was human. A daughter of a powerful man that made her confident, but modest and low key. Sophia was a natural at being human. Who needs experienced actors in awkward scenes, anyway? I would much rather those scenes feel slightly real than slightly overacted. She was young, naive, inexperienced, a daddy's girl, a modest religious Italian girl of that era. Perfect to play Mary! And Sophia played her with class, elegance and brought something relatable to the movie. She was exotic, sensuous yet still so young. And her beauty was stunning! So, in my humble opinion, Sophie was perfect for Maria and I'm glad Wynonna got better but SO glad she had to skip GF III.

Man this is crazy. As someone who lived with a violent alcoholic growing up, i never, ever contemplated it as campy or funny. It was just a mirror to our lives so it was way too real to enjoy watching. Pins and needles. You never knew when the explosion would come so you never, ever relaxed. For years i was always apprehensive to sit down. I would always stand and make my friends weirded out when they would say..Sit down dude and stay awhile, jokingly. It took me years to understand i stood because it was much easier to slink out of a room if your standing as opposed to sitting. If your sitting you instantly make yourself a target by standing up. Took me years to actually learn to sit down. Years.

I absolutely loved it because of it’s incestuous qualities. I also liked that the characters are all much more concerned with the appearance of respectability than actually living it. It’s just fun to judge horrible people doing terrible things to each other.

Excellent viewing! Appreciated the nod to Anne Bancroft in part one. Ironically, she was in the running to play Joan in Mommie Dearest back in 1981. Perhaps she recognized the high camp potential and gracefully backed out. Probably a wise move considering it turned out to be a career killer for Faye Dunaway! I have a lot of love for that film, however, even though it degrades poor Joan so ruthlessly. Love the production design and that beautiful Mancini score. And despite the inaccuracies, Dunaway provides a bravura turn, summoning the glamour and intensity of her subject. To say I’m a huge fan of these legendary divas would be an understatement. Baby Jane is a true classic and deserves recognition as such. I found the objective analysis here to be refreshing and enlightening. It was great to see tabloid coverage from the era describing a harmonious set and a professional demeanor between the two legends. Seems to dispel the years of gossip that created such a myth about the supposed enmity that plagued the production. I do tend to believe, however, that Crawford’s unfortunate withdrawal from Sweet Charlotte had something to do with Bette’s machinations. Joan’s stunt at the Oscars was simply unforgivable. Hush Hush suffered for it. What could have been another classic, with Joan as the villain this time, turned out to be a decidedly more tepid affair.

Clara Bow's life and successes are the embodiment of "Of you've got nothing, you got nothing to lose." Her childhood and family life had been so bad, she had no where to go but "up." It was a good break for her, until life again took up cudgels against her.

This is superficially a story of race. And one can knock it as a white savior movie. But deep down this is a women's story regardless of race. The top 7 performers are women, by the way the most exceptional actors imaginable, and in this way, this is an unbelievably exceptional and radical movie imaginable, while still a period piece.

Davis was by far the better actress who delved into her characters. Jezebel, The Letter, The Little Foxes, All About Eve. Towering achievements. But I don’t know where she got the idea that her scenery-chewing shrew in Baby Jane was superior to Bancroft’s multi-layered exploration of a historical person. Bancroft richly deserved that Oscar, and you would’ve thought the end of the had come the way Davis bitched & moaned about it for the rest of her life.
