The way he bends the 6ob is remarkable. I mean, everything he plays in remarkable, but the way he can finesse an overblow bend is out of this world.
@bk201_blues4 ай бұрын
That requires a custom harp from Joe Spiers. Once I got good at customizing myself, I can bend that overblow similar to shown here. But, Joe has the secret sauce for this technique. Try a harp out, you ll be pleasantly surprised

I had lessons with him in Kerrville Texas in June 2022. This is killer harpin. He’s on an F harp and still playing in the upper register. He’s got speed on his riffs that mortals lack. I am a pipsqueak on harp compared to this man.

Todd actually showed me during one of my lessons how he did the lick at 2:43. It was living in my head rent free and I'd thought I should ask him about it. I never heard an overdraw in action up until that point, let alone one that was bent. Okay, technically I did with another version of the same song he did in 2012, but I never paid any attention to it until recently. The dude is crazy talented.

I believe this is the same set where you played Sunday Soup, and then sang a song “Everybody Wants to go Heaven, But Nobody Wants to Die”. If so, then please come back to Austin. I’ll bring everyone I know.

This is so amazing. The hours Todd has put into his craft are on full display. Love, love this song and this rendition. When are you coming back to Austin, and how do I get tickets? Straight amazing.

Wesley, I am in Round Rock and we had Todd bring his program to First Baptist a few years ago. He lives along way off so probably the best way to get him to the area is to have multiple churches invited him to perform so that it make it work for him financially. Of course it was a wonderful treat to have him at our church. At the time I invited local harmonica players to join. We also had Buddy Greene come for his performance. You can join the Gospel Harmonica Community on Facebook book to join a group that all enjoy good Gospel harmonica playing!

I'm actually one of his students and this was the song that made me realize that Todd was something special as a harmonica player. Keep in mind I only listened to two songs from him, "I'll Fly Away" from SPAH 2012 and "Amazing Grace" from SPAH 2013, when I decided to take lessons from him. The way he played this song, I could hear a lot of influence from Terry McMillan in his playing and he has told me personally that Terry was his biggest influence. It's just that his style was like a combination of McMillan with the powerful blues licks and Toots Thielemans with the control of the higher end of the harp. What I think is his best performance was a song from that same concert called "Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven". The McMillan influence was shining through in that one, even down to where you can hear him do McMillan's signature growl.
