My grandfather worked on the SS Keewatin for a while as a young engineer (at least, I believe he was an engineer at the time). Sadly, I never got a lot of stories about his time working on boats. He struggled with alcoholism for years before he sobered up, and didn't talk a lot about those times in general. He died in 2012 after a short battle with cancer. I would have loved to visit the Keewatin with him while it was at Port McNicoll.

Another beautiful example of our perverted version of capitalism. An ACTUAL capitalist system would include cradle to grave costs of extraction, manufacturing, sales, disposal of products in the cost to end users. In addition to being great for the environment this system would spark countless new business opportunities and the jobs that come with them. Making the situation worse consider that electricity is controlled by states public utilities commissions. Nearly every PUC is under the thumb of politicians and their dogmas. Here in Northeast Ohio FirstEnergy, possibly the most CORRUPT utility in America used $60 million in bribes as a way to get higher rates in order to save two nuke and seven coals plants. Resulted in the greatest corruption scandal in Ohio's history. The nukes are Ohio's best non-emitting greenhouse gases plants. Ohio's PUC for political reasons forces the energy companies to sell at ridiculously low cost per KWH. We currently pay 9¢ per kilowatt hour. There's no way you can run an effective always on system at these low rates. This has resulted in little to no reinvestment in the state grid. Maintenance and upgrades are delayed or eliminated. You only need to look at the catastrophic results of the weather a few weeks ago to see the results. Many Ohioans are still without power! Another downside of ultra cheap electricity is that people pay no attention to how much they waste. 50% or more of typical household energy use is wasted. We are energy blind as a result.

If you limted farmers on fertilizer, and the phosphorus levels still havent dropped. Then logically there is more to the problem than just farmers spreading fertilizer. Its just they're an easy target for politicians to scapegoat.

In northern Ohio the water shed is into Lake Erie. Massive biological pollution and massive fertilization of crops in Northern Ohio are feeding those blooms, so put that in your Ai , you EPA do nothings. Keep an eye on this Humans. They want all agriculture to cease in 80% of America and they are gunning for that control. They will declare massive areas, we now live in, "off limits" under Agenda 21.

Ok - build a dam on the river so that it’s possible to filter out The toxins from the farming agricultural land before re-introducing it to Lake Erie !!!! If you can spend that much money on building a water treatment plant- you can certainly build a water filtration system on the river before entering Lake Erie

Acquire a rich mix of Native grass seed & spread it wide all along the Miami River, or whichever one is up there. The problem will diminish greatly within a couple of years. Only downside is more difficult access to river by pedestrians. But, it'll grow quick- especially as a mix. It'll get really tall & thick, too.

There’s something going here no one is addressing why were there no blooms or giant blooms prior to 2014? blaming farming is not the end all be all not like them farms just popped up in 2013 , so why is it no one analyzing data a decade or two prior to 2014 for comparison ? 🤔 and don’t tell me there isn’t any that lake been scrutinized since the late 60’s

When I researched the superfund sites in Western New York, none of the NRG or former heavy manufacturing sites are on the designated EPA maps. I grew up here and when I see that all of the toxic dumps that have existed here for decades are supposedly cleaned up, I just shake my head. WHAT A CROCK! The legacy of the Rust Belt is Cancer, due to the environmental mess that our so-called leaders have allowed big business to circumvent the EPA and the Clean water Act

The accidental experiment that happened in 2019 should be an indication to professionals that agriculture is not the only concern. HABs in Western Lake Erie is a complex issue that involves EVERY source of phosphorus. Why does no one ever speak about the city of Maumee dumping more than their allocations allowed for sewage over the past 20 years? How about the sewer systems themselves? We’re pointing the finger at the easiest contributor for scientists to see and fail to examine those who are protect by money and more resources. The science does NOT absolutely point towards agriculture as the primary source. We need more data and awareness on the complexity, so we can actually create a holistic approach to a solution. The bottom of the western basin is another source of phosphorus that has accumulated over decades that scientists ignore.

Try speaking to local municipalities about clear cutting the creeks. Monroe County MI always has agri runoff and they cut everything that would help soak up the excess nutrients. It's all a joke honestly.

We use sand for almost everything why not just send the sand to a water table to get it to be like normal sand we use for concrete and well use this stamp sand for concrete use. I mean it’s better then putting it in a dump for it to potentially start leaking and poison the land around it. Yes it can leach from the concrete if it’s used for that but if it’s very little stamp sand used and it’s spread across long distances it’s likely not to poison anything also concrete uses iron and aluminum dust to increase its strength so why not use stamp sand instead.

Its from the dumping of human sht into the water. If your city or town does not properly control the fecal waste. Example, town builds sespool that drains into locally used creek where animals and people obviously frequent, algae bloom appears when the temperature and other conditions are right, poop feeds algae bloom.
