Oh God I so miss Butter Pies! I’ve lived in the South for about 27 years now and no one down here has a clue what a butter pie is.

@@hollytreechippy7304 lol, our local chippy has peas and gravy but they’re not the real thing. I’d love to move back but I have no family there anymore and Hubby and son are southerners. When hubs retires he wants to move back to the south east coast, maybe I should set up a proper pie shop/chippy. I miss the northern water too, this southern stuff is horrible! 🤣🤣🤣

So you show us how to make a John bull. Without showing us what goes into a John bull. Hhhhmmmm interesting. Like me saying, here's a ticket to alton towers, but you have to actually buy the ticket to alton towers then making a video on how to buy a ticket. What's the point???

Hi Steven - I put this in the notes about the video "Not all recipes are the same and the more successful shops keep their list of ingredients secret - just like us!". Our success with our John Bulls is the combination of taste/seasoning, quality ingredients and texture - ingredients are important so the recipe is critical. There's maybe three or four shops who have a top quality John Bull .... and honestly none of us will share the actual ingredients or recipe. There are several different variations - some chippys use corned beef or mash potato or maybe even tinned mince! We don't use what we believe to be substitutes and we believe we are pretty close to the original mix and recipe as we have customers and family of the original shop visiting us for them. But some folk might prefer one of the variations.

never heard of them but will hunt one down when I can. Apparently Arnside chippy and The Neptune chippy at Scotforth also sell these. Apparently they originated in the John Bull chippy in Freckleton street Blackburn.

The Bolton Road 'Savoy' chippy is the accepted founding chippy - although the Freckleton St chippy apparently did make a good one too!!
