Ive been using these tricks for over a year now and its saved me a tremendous amount of money. The filters are easily better than what you buy to replace. Thanks again Girl talks Fish!

I wouldn’t always add a Kuhli loach because my betta loves all of the hiding spots in the tank and I know the kuhi loach will want to hide during the day and my betta like to too so my betta will hate the kuhli

I’ve had the same Nerite snail for 7+ years. 🐌It has thrived through many different water conditions. I can’t figure it out. I’ve bought fancy snail food, which it ignores and prefers to consume tank algae. I always try to keep track of where it is because I don’t want it to die and foul the fish tank. The person who commented before me mentioned how fast moving these snails are and it’s true. I turn my back for a few minutes and it’s moved to the opposite side of the tank.

Shell dwellers alter their environment, that's what they do. Watching them clean up after a storm on the lake is fascinating. They take some time getting used to the noise of the exhaled air from the demand valve, but after that, they settle down to moving sand. They don't build large heaps like they did for you, rather, they couldn't carry the excess aragonite far enough away. So it ended up in a heap, unfortunately in your case, at the front of the tank. But you shouldn't hold this against them, they are delightful little fishes, always busy. Stabilising the bedrock would help some.

You need much, much more landmass for mudskippers. About 4 times as much as you have now. Mudskippers spend more time out of the water than in it, so a small pool of water is enough. Your tank is not a proper setup for them. Also, for that size tank, you should get about 3 or 5 more mudskipper, if properly decorated with a lot more landmass, since when there are only a few (3 in your case), the weakest get picked on and dies.

I don’t get why people butcher the Fluval Flex 9 & 15 gal tanks because they have the pre built ins for the filters/heaters and media sponge and then complain about the compartment in the tank. They are built this way for a reason. If you don’t like it buy a basic 10 gal or 20 gal square tank if you want more room. Makes no sense.

If you are putting a precycled filter into a new tank, add livestock immediately so that the bacteria on the filter have a supply of ammonia to eat. Without ammonia they will quickly die and the dead filter will be of no help when you do add your livestock.

Going to do a complete clean out including getting rid of sand substrate. Moving my fish and mystery snails to a different tank. Local fish store is taking my ramshorn snails and plants. Need to get rid of ramshorn snails and eggs completely. Doing ornaments and filters/pumps in bleach as well. I am assuming not to do sponge filters in bleach??? Is this correct??? Will use a decloranator and test water before moving fish and mystery snails back into main tank.

Another tip for helping bettas to eat - try SOAKING the pellets in a little bit of their tank water. Doesn’t need to fall apart, just get them a bit soggy :p my fish in the past have always eaten better that way! If your fish is smart enough to let it soak in their tank before eating, even better lol but mine was always ready to eat when I came over with their food ♥️ However, like you said, it can make their tank a bit messy, especially if you feed a large amount at once. Remember they’re tiny lil guys, they won’t eat more than a few pellets per feeding ♥️

I also liked spoiling my Bettas with little treats- you can buy frozen feeder creatures from most pet stores! I still have a tray of frozen blood worms in my freezer :p they LOVE them and it’s a great nutritional snack for them compared to pellets! ♥️
