Thanks to Amy and Rusty for the walk through, introduction and Q&A. I'm reconnecting with ceramics after retiring and I have sooo much to explore as I develop my home studio. It’s exciting to have physical resources close to home.

I love what the new owners have done to the store! It used to be a dust mess and it was hard to get help. Now everything is easy to find. Staff is great. They help you select the best product. I met the gentleman in the video.

I like the cup with the pale orange inside and the sheep outside. Looks great. I love finely speckled clay too. I love the glaze on the shot glasses and footage 13:24. I wondered if you hollowed out the sheep nose? Since it’s a thicker body of clay.
@penningtondesignpottery8 күн бұрын
Thank you! I do hollow it out a bit but it is still thicker than the rest. I just make sure to dry it very slowly and for a long while!

Why!?

Some pottery end up not coming out useable, whether that is due to cracks, glaze flaws rendering them not food safe, etc.

The new kitchen piece is Amazing! I can see it on a lazy susan next to the stove with my favorite most used spices and EVOO along with wooden spoons. With the handle it can be portable for when my husband and I are both in the kitchen. Maybe you could make a raised ring in the bottom of it for setting your oil bottle and sell as a set? I DEFINITELY want one when you get it sorted and have gotten them made!

I am taking lessons on the wheel. So far I’ve had two and I can’t cone up and down because I don’t have strength in my arms. I really want to learn. Some have said my clay is too firm so I’m going to try another.. I love your work and the ease you do it with..

I've started making shrinkage rulers for each clay out of a paint stir stick. That way I dont have to re calculate everything every time. Just the initial measurement of the stopper. Then I can attempt to throw to my premade shrinkage ruler. I have the one from diamond core, but not all of my clays fit it exactly. And I was always looking on websites to find the shrinkage rates. Now I just grab the stick for the clay im using. It's still dependant on my skills etc. But it's helping dial it in a bit. I didn't come up with it. Another potter suggested doing it and it's been a useful hand-built tool. 😊

Beautiful pots! Would love to see you glaze the sherry the sheep mug! Do you wax the bottoms of your pots? Neat idea for a kitchen caddy, was thinking it’d be great for flatwear, salt n pepper and sugar bowl on the table
@penningtondesignpottery6 ай бұрын
Yes, I think I will be doing a glazing video for Sherry! I only wax the pots that I am dipping in glaze, the blushed ones I do not.

Pennington--- I often find that 'less is more'. While I'm certainly not adverse to deep lush colors, more often than not, I gravitate toward monochromatics and pastels. To take it from 'ho hum' to extraordinary, I use Mayco's overglaze lusters. While a bit pricy, it moves the needle dramatically. The mother of pearl works remarkably well on white. It might just be a solution for you. A touch of gold on rims, flowers and leaves etc. bumps it towards the 'classic'--something with which I'm very comfortable. LMK if you give it a try and how it goes. Best of luck. P

Love to see you throw the shots off the hump.😁 Is the white glaze crawling because its too thick?
@penningtondesignpottery6 ай бұрын
I'll be doing a video soon I think! The bucket of glaze seems to be the right thickness, but one thought is that the rims of the oil bottles are pretty thin, I throw them thinner because I am not trimming those ones, and it may make it so the glaze is not absorbing into the bisqueware as well.
