Bought the tool, watched your informative no BS video and it worked exactly as shown. In the past I tried cheaper pullers that never worked but made me actually invent curse words. Thanks Mike, it made my life a lot easier and the price is of no concern when you consider time is money.

hello , i have a too deep pattern , but pinion doesnt have any shims to remove , any help would be aprecieted
@TheBFHGarage19 сағат бұрын
A couple of reasons this can happen. If you reinstalled the factory slinger/shim that was behind the pinion head, it may be too thick. Secondly, make sure the race is seated all the way if you're not using a set up race. Also make sure you are using the correct bearings. Are you using thick cut gears? Do you have the correct carrier?

@TheBFHGarage2 күн бұрын
The bearings are SET10 and the seals are 9912S. It's very important to use a reputable seal as they sit behind the bearing. If the seal leaks, you have to replace it all again.

Installed a Rusty's off Road track bar on the front of my ZJ a couple of years ago, and have been very pleased with the results, it is very heavy duty and uses a moog part # ES3096 L tie rod on the adjustable end that is the same as what is used for a 3/4 ton Chevrolet or GMC and can be easily located at many part stores if needed.

I just changed out my passenger side actuator. Your video was very helpful. I was actually able to go in from underneath and behind the actuator with a 1/4” drive ratchet and 7mm to get the rear screw. Also, my splines would not line up to install the new one, so I opened up the screen door to the blender and lifted the door all the way up and it lined up perfect. Turned the jeep on and tested, all is right in the world now.

Thanks for the nice video. Getting ready to do my gears on the JL Rubicon. I noticed you did not measure the total torque to rotate amount in order to determine if the carrier bearing preload was within spec, do you just base this off of feel? Also, I was put under the impression by Dana that the preload numbers are based on new bearings/races and without any additional lubrication. Have you noticed a difference? Thanks
@TheBFHGarage16 күн бұрын
I did do a torque to rotate, must not have videoed it. When I set up gears I always add a thin layer of gear oil as to not run them dry. The torque differences change due to original bearings already being broken in and settled.
@GevoA116 күн бұрын
@@TheBFHGarage I did catch that but wasn't that just for the pinion? I didn't realize you had the ring gear in there already. I don't like running things dry either, which is why I thought I'd ask if it makes sense that according to Dana, the pinion torque and total torque figures are for new, non lubricated parts. Thanks for the reply
@TheBFHGarage16 күн бұрын
@@GevoA1 the video might only show me checking the pinion alone, I can't remember. But if you're where normal preload is, then the TTR will most likely be good too. It's interesting to check it all and see how things change though.
@GevoA116 күн бұрын
@@TheBFHGarage I see. Appreciate it. I'll do a check dry vs oiled and see if any significant change is noticeable to affect the final figures. Will post back then.

My Dana 30 on the front of my JK has a few teeth chipped off the ring gear that I found when changing the oil. I went ahead and changed the oil And now in the process of debating whether I want to tackle it myself or let the pros do it. Temperatures are fine, No whining noises, no clunking, I changed the oil about 20k ago. Had I not found that chipped tooth when draining oil I would have never known there was an issue.

I've had them on just enough to get seat heaters installed. It's been a really long time since. The process should be relatively the same. Just work through the hog rings as you come to them and have replacements on hand for reinstall.

For those like me who are doing diff work for the first time (though I'm pretty experienced doing other fixes on my Jeep), he's not even exaggerating a tiny bit in regards to the crush sleeve and the pinion preload. The amount of torque on the pinion nut is ridiculous, and once that crush sleeve engages, it is nothing but very tiny adjustments from there. The preload went from 0 - 18 in/lbs for me in very short order. All in all, this video, along with the basic techniques in other videos like the Dana 30 and 44, have been invaluable here, and have saved me a lot of time and grief. Thanks so much, BFH!
