Hi, I think it depends on the car’s condition and whether you’re rebuilding it to keep the car or re sell it after it’s complete. If you’re building the car for yourself and can do most of the work it is definitely worth it however if your intention is to buy a cheap E70 X5M for example, you will not be able to make much money considering the time you spent on the rebuilt. That journey of rebuilding the whole engine is definitely something you will remember forever 👍

@dnl35projects
@dnl35projects 14 күн бұрын
It doesn't have to go that high because we are removing the front bumper and basically sliding the engine out to the front of the car however you also need a scissor lift table or some sort of engine crane (to drop the engine and transmission on it, then drag them forward once all subframe bolts have been removed/engine dropped. My lift goes up about a metre and you have to be extremely careful when the engine is out as the car will tend to tilt back as the lift is raised.

We all know N/S63 runs hot with turbos being almost inside the damn engine, and stock thermostat opens at 108°C, do you think it would be a good thing to put in 90°C thermostat in?!
@dnl35projects
@dnl35projects 22 күн бұрын
I won't challenge what the engineerings decided when they came up with that thermostat and all consequences attached to changing it's temp. My honest believe is that these engine will run cooler when service is done more often and properly. I see people not servicing their cooling system or just filling up with water and when you do that you create air pockets in the system causing it not to work as effectively.

my engine S63 X5M F85 has 120k miles on it. I know timing chain is an issue, do I need to do a full rebuild? Pull engine out etc?
@dnl35projects
@dnl35projects 28 күн бұрын
Timing chain wear on the F85 is not as bad as in the E70 but still cannot be ignored. There is a way of checking how stretched the chains are it by inspecting the tensioners (small lid behind the intercoolers) however if you want to replace the chain is definitely an engine-out job and rebuild. basically there is no way to replace the chains without removing the timing cover and in order to do so, you first have to remove the sump and the engine heads to be able to remove/install the timing cover.

I think this question has been asked alot of time but i know that you will answer it correctly, i have n63tu and i dont have any burn oil that some do complain about my car is only 70k km and am using amsoil signature oil 0w40, i wish that i can change it to 5w50 amsoil due to most of the year in my country is summer and really hot around 45c to 55c which i feel it could be better. Do you agree ? Ansoil signature is not recommended by amsoil but the spesification they want oil low saps to meet the cats on the car which has been replaced with high flow cats. Do you think that 0w50 is alot and i should stay using something like 5w30 or sustain using 0w40 ? Thank you for replying to our answers 😅
@dnl35projects
@dnl35projects 28 күн бұрын
I am no expert in engine oil and would highly recommend you stick to the viscosity BMW recommends - I'm in Australia where the average temp is about 25c and only use a quality 5w40 in all my S63 engines. If your car isn't burning oil I'd say stick to the oil you are currently using or shift to a 5w40 (not 5w50)

Daniel, why is my s63 burning so much oil? There is no leaking anywhere in the engine bay whatsoever. The exhaust smoke is only intermittent and I have been told the PCV system is the likely cause, despite all the PCV parts are new, including Index 12 injectors and air oil separators inside the valve covers? Should I switch to thicker, ester based synthetic oil?
@dnl35projects
@dnl35projects Ай бұрын
There are a few reasons why they burn through oil however the most common since you replaced all listed above would be the Valve Stem seals. What car do you have and whats the mileage ? I use 5w40 here in Australia and even after a full engine rebuild my car still uses about 1 litre of oil every 1500-2000kms with absolutely NO visible smoke - (only on the first run when at the drag races)

First of all, congratulations for thinking that way ! The best time to rebuild these engines is when they still run fine. Nice video , looking forward to the next essential one. I've read some positive stuff about a guy with an M3 E92 who replaced his rod bearings with a custom set of "ACL Trimetal" and he stated that these basically "solve" the rod bearing issue. Another thing - what would you recommend if I'm replacing the rod bearings on a S63 should I replace the main bearings as well ?
@dnl35projects
@dnl35projects Ай бұрын
You’re absolutely right ! Rod and main bearings are preventive maintenance in some of these high power BMW engines and in fact that’s what made me start this Channel in first place. I’ve done the rod bearings on my v10 M5 in 2019, along with an extensive service and the car has been running good ever since. I’m using ACL race series for rod bearings and King for main bearings - most of the engines I’ve done had relatively good main bearings but I rather spend the extra $250 and have the peace of mind the mains were done as well unless the car has less than 60-80k kms
