Great views but crazy without rope protection. Some mountain chick grabbed a rock, it cracked off, and she tumbled 900ft to the valley floor. Partner trad anchors would make this safe and fun.

You can brake with a hand lever and yes there is a seat belt. I'm not sure if two people can ride at once, maybe an adult and a child?

We did this hike May 13, 2021. Last 2 miles or so on the road after turnoff from Cigarette Springs road is definitely a bad idea for a low clearance vehicle. A high front wheel drive could probably make but better a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Parking at Cigarette Springs and hiking to the trailhead at edge of Road Canyon makes it about 7.5 total miles. The hike itself was fairly easy with a steep scramble down to Citadel at one point. This might be a problem for people leery of heights; cairn finding is necessary and a few knee scrapes were incurred on my over 70 knees. Hike is almost entirely exposed to sun but it's elevation keeps it relatively cool.

RC thanks for putting this out. We've all done stuff like this, even the people thinking they're river gods. I've been on those rapids at that level and it's not the big rock that got you it's the submarine rock in front of it that's hard to see until you're almost on top of it... ESPECIALLY when your hung over. Yeah you should have secured stuff in your boat better, yeah there are a lot of things you should have done differently during your swim. But you learned from it and so will others that get to watch it.... even the river gods.
@Judd973 жыл бұрын
I actually only lost a baseball cap, my stuff was very well secured. Everything you see floating belonged to the other person in the raft. It's easy for folks here to say you should've grabbed this or that while swimming because they're looking through the eyes of the camera, which sees all. Not quite as easy when you're actually in the water.

That’s awesome! I am obsessed with trying it in the snow. I did it without snow but I want the challenge. My problem is I don’t have anyone to do it with. Do you think I can? I hike often but I worry about finding the trail even with a satellite map. What do you think?
@Judd973 жыл бұрын
It is hard to say without knowing your experience level, but as long as you have the proper gear and knowledge then give it a shot! Just be let someone know where you are, be very careful, keep an eye on weather and conditions and turn around if you feel unsafe.
@lindayang60883 жыл бұрын
Haha thanks! My mom would not like your encouragement since I do a lot of “crazy” things by my family’s standard. I hike fairly often, I’ve done two 14ers, I just did rim to angels camp to rim at Grand Canyon by myself. I can do Humphreys no problem by myself confidently without snow. I can get micro spikes and there’s a place to rent snowshoes just in case. I was there two weeks ago and just did half a mile to see how the snow was and it was 5pm. I should call the ranger station since you need a backcountry permit anyways. Sometimes I think I can do it myself, sometimes I get worried something may happen bc I’m a girl and people always say things to me. I know my limits and I know I’ll turn back if I get nervous. I get so inspired by these videos. Kudos and I’m jealous.
