Please do this outside. You are putting concentrated alcohol fumes in your house. Get a coffee pot warmer and do it outside. Also, try to use the highest proof everclear for a cleaner final product.

It has to be fun and educational for you to have a permanent video history of your past gardens. I take notes on my garden each year and they are in the same notebook, so far. But, having that visual library has to be so great. I've never recorded or even taken very many pictures of my garden. I have a few memories that pop up on fb tho. And that is so fun! To see how far I've come in the same plot I've been gardening now for 12 years. What I've learned, changed and moved. But, you have an actual week to week diary of that. Plus people that are learning from you!! So awsome.

I agree, it's really cool to see! I like to record lots of things about my life for the reason that memories of things can shift over time as we focus on different aspects of them. With the garden, I often remember only the extremes of very good and very bad, and it would distort my comparisons if I didn't have the more neutral evidence of these tours. I do also keep a notebook for quick reference information year to year.

Your garden looks amazing! While you're hoping for some rain, I could do with some drier weather. This year has been really wet in western Europe, resulting in sooo many slugs. Besides peas, garlic, 1 cucumber and tomatoes, nothing managed to survive the slug invasion. I removed half of my tomatoes yesterday due to blight (normally this would happen in September or October). Luckily I planted a lot of tomatoes that are quite blight resistent.

Oh no! It's rough when one pest gets really out of control like that. I know it's too late, but in the future look into how to reduce their available habitat, and how to encourage the predators that make sense for your area.

and rashberries, last wummer was my first time I actually got green leaves and a few rashberries.... so for next summer as we are winter here in Adelaode.... do I now cut them right back or just leave them see what happens?.
@AuxhartGardening
@AuxhartGardening 3 күн бұрын
In the spring, look for which branches have green growth and which ones don't, and cut back all the dead ones then. Raspberry branches (aka canes) will fruit twice before dying off.

so with your cucumbers do you think trelling them better than just having them on the grown?....
@AuxhartGardening
@AuxhartGardening 3 күн бұрын
Yes trellising is better than the ground, they are less likely to be chewed on by pests when they're on a trellis.

Our neighbor feeds the deer. She says that she likes to watch them. I'm not kidding. Everyone else is upset. We have these fat, big, healthy looking deer everywhere. A friend of ours said that he and his friends would come out one night and act as a predator. They like deer meat.

Sometimes raised beds are best when dogs coexist with the garden areas. For example, my two poodles enjoy running over my garden spaces during play time, and a large/tall fence would severely cut my yard in pieces. A tall raised bed would deter the dogs from damaging my garden.

Your video was excellent, unfortunately I did not watch it before pulling all my red onions; cutting the green tops off and peeled so the dirt was removed. So now I guess I will have to give my beautiful red onions away because they will not be able to harvest! First time growing onions, live and learn. Question, is there any way I can harvest at this point? I even saved the tops thinking I could use them for sautéed scallions. Should have watched your video first, guess I was so happy to see how beautifully the onions grew. Thank you
@AuxhartGardening
@AuxhartGardening 3 күн бұрын
They will be okay, but they won't stay good for as long. What you might look into is preservation techniques. You can dry them in the oven on low for onion powder, you could freeze them for use in vegetable stock, and I've even made french fried onions and frozen them and those heat up in the oven great.

I don't know if anyone suggested hostas as shade tolerant, edible perennials. They are toxic to cats but so are tomatoes and your two seem to be dealing fine with those.

Zone 6b here, dry as you know what this year. I had to use tap for all annual plants (perennials had 0 issues; deep mulch). Typically this time of year I use my rain barrels to make tea for the emergence of my summer rotation; barrels are dry. Im going to add more barrels for storage.... My success rate with germination (summer) is half of what is typical for me. I think the tap could be the culprit.... I may be wrong( I hope).... I had some excavation done and reseeded my lawn at the same time. The grass seed was exclusively fed tap and is doing fine.... I don't know if soil temperature cooked the seeds or what.... I did screen the lawn; growing grass in the summer is impossible without it... Had to be soil temp, right?
@AuxhartGardening
@AuxhartGardening 12 күн бұрын
It's hard to say. Soil temp can definitely be part of it, but to 'cook' the seeds the temp would have to be at least 130F for a week. They could just be dormant waiting for things to cool down. But also idk much about tap water in other areas. I know it's not as good as rain, but if it's safe for people to drink I see no reason it would actively harm your plants.

Same here with the heat and drought. I finally have ONE lone cucumber on the vine. It's bonkers! We have a cool down coming with like 7 straight days of rain in the forecast after none for weeks. Curious to see what that will do in the garden. Hopefully, everything will be so happy and start fruiting! Unless the forecast changes... Hmm. I wonder if I should harvest the potatoes. Plants are dying back. Was thinking of giving them a little more time but don't want them to split with all the rain expected. Really hope you get some peppers and eggplant! Love the spider! I love them in the garden! I had a baby praying mantis in the garden today. Such a cutie! Take care!

This time of year our forecast says rain possible every single day, but it's pop-up thunderstorms that if they do manage to hit will leave maybe a tenth of an inch of rain max, so it's so hard to tell when there will be actual rain. I'm happy for you that you're going to get so much good rain though! I'd say get those potatoes out, if the plants are dying back theyre not going to get any bigger. It's just more time for pests to make holes in them. I had a full grown praying mantis the other day, I wish I'd gotten a picture of it! I hope that means there are more, they're so hard to see. But having them is such a good sign!

Citrus gal here! I think the general rule is don't let it fruit for about three years so it can grow in size and strengthen its roots. If you think about that tiny plant trying to support that many fruit form its current blossoms it's not going to fair too well. However three years is a long time, life's too short, and the scent of citrus flowers is of the best, especially in the morning, so maybe leave one or two on there once the blossoms create tiny fruit, thats what I normally do! Loving the vids from Sydney Australia 🐞❤
@AuxhartGardening
@AuxhartGardening 12 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tips! I'll leave just a couple then. They are kumquats so the fruit should be relatively small, and 1-2 seem like they'd be fine for the plant to support.
