There's no light or contrast control. You would need front light to adjust.

Frontlights vary from one to the next, but generally speaking Kobos do have more issues with unevenness. Same with the entry-level Kindle, but the frontlight on the Paperwhite is really good. I've had two of the current version and both were very even.

you can turn a frontlight off you cant turn no frontlight on. ereaders have terrible contrast vs real printed paper. in equal lighting eink performs much worse, and adding supplementary lighting adds glare (again unlike real paper) a simple light in the bezel turned down low can help compensate for those shortcomings without looking unrealistic. ereaders are about practicality, their convinience over books is their only advantage. being able to light up is part of that

When I had my first kindle I was CRAVING for a frontlight. Now that we have it and it's the common thing on any eink, Boox remove it and adds lag on writing. Genius strategy.

That's just how E Ink screens work. The full screen refresh causes a black flash as the ink articles rearrange. It happens much less frequently than it used to. With Kobos you can set it to full refresh every 1-10 pages, or once per chapter. Kindles usually do it once every chapter as well, or whenever there are images.

Yes you can on both devices, you just gotta connect Bluetooth earbuds or speaker to be able to hear it.

@@meeka59 Libra Colour as the colours from my comparisons look more natural on the Kobo. Some colors were very exaggerated on Boox. Another factor was that I like the sunken screen much more on the Kobo and repairability + kobo store. The device seems more robust overall. The flush screen on the Boox is still amazing, though. And having the versatility of Android and sd card expansion is a big plus. What I can add to the Boox though, is that the rainbow effect was much less visible when reading manga. Maybe due to the flush screen? That being said, I am going back to Libra 2. I think colour e-ink needs more time.

It is obviously laggier than the Note Air 3C, because there is no BOOX Super Refresh, and also because of the characteristics of the monochrome display.

@@theandroidguyy NA3C has the same bw layer with a color layer added, plus frontlight. That makes a thicker screen with no reason for the Go to be laggier on the same and alone bw screen layer. Moreover, there are much faster eink bw pads with weaker chipset on the same screen, so it sound like Go is a badly engineered item

I’m 100% with you on focused device, but 10.3 screen isn’t a problem. I have a remarkable 2 and I love it for what it is. Exporting images I draw with it is a problem. No idea who beta tests for them, but feedback is either ignored or not made properly.

I don't think that's a truism you can make. Onyx have front lit devices with the Air for those who want or need one. It adds a bit more weight and size but it's there for those who want it. This will have a place with those who don't need a light on the machine.
