I swear, they lied about this game's genre. Instead of playing it with an arpg mindset, playing it with a turn-based mindset actually makes this game feel easier.

I have no idea how I beat this fucking absolutely torturous fucking game when I was a little 13 year old with a PSP but… Man I LOVE this game, there’s charm, beauty and a lot of love put into it, and because of how bullshit it can be, it feels all the greater when you finally kill a monster you’ve lost to several times. I love how I’m fighting what is essentially a god, but I still take the time to flex after the power of the Sun disintegrates half my hunters body, but it’s something you simply get used to. You adapt to the bullshit, you become the bullshit. And nothing will never feel quite like home like Pokke Village. Its theme song, its layout, it’ll always bring me so much joy and comfort coming back to it, and I’m sure that’ll be the case when I beat Wilds when it comes out. Mhfu is an amazing game, that I absolutely love to death, even if it kicks me in the teeth, especially after the granny quests, oh god…
@TemplarBlonicАй бұрын
Good man. The PSP days were certainly an absurd difficulty spike but man was it fun! So much content and so much to do! Challenges felt amazing to overcome and hunts slowly got faster the better you got at hunting a specific monster! Moga Village is my home but Pokke Village theme is absolutely amazing and fits “home” and “safety” perfectly.

Yeah, KH1 has a lot of nostalgia for me but that aside I just find it infinitely easier to dive into and have another playthrough of… much moreso than KH2, which, as you said is better mechanically but I just can’t get into it as easily as KH1. I’m just glad we have the series as a whole! As for not watching the whole thing- really, the most important bit it the Tone segment and the final section. Everything else is kinda a recap.

Damn this brings back memories, thanks for the PTSD 😂. After seeing the trailer way back before release date I was intrigued. Picked it up off ebay in late 2005 and it was absolutely brutal. I bought the stupid expansion for the PS2 so I could go online and that is what absolutely changed the game for me. I had a clan and we played for hundreds of hours and we even had a forum page called Minegarde. I was a Lance and Bowgun main and had probably the the best time of my gaming life. I even logged in on the last day before the servers were closed for a few last hunts with friends, literally got disconnected in a raid when the servers went down. I love seeing how popular it has become so thanks to all those that stuck with it, from the first one, through the Freedom releases and beyond to what we enjoy now!

The second generation of games aren’t much easier. I found it much harder because of how much content is in it. Third generation is much more polished. Not “easy,” but definitely not as obscene as MH1. Fourth generation is when it got streamlined but still difficult. Probably the best of the series. Fifth generation (world and rise) is where it got absurdly easy until you get into the end-game.

@@TemplarBlonic yes, it's very clunky, very clunky, and anti ergonomic, but I recently played it and aside from a very sore index from the claw grip, it's pretty manageable, it's much more strategy than anything, with exception of the ultra grind that is unlocking fatalis, it's like the only monster hunter you can finish all quests in less than 50 hours, fatalis on other hand is miserable, but it's super hard in every game
@TemplarBlonic5 ай бұрын
@@Rankaquion Yeah, I gotta agree that once you get down the mechanics it’s way more straightforward… just… REALLY clunky, but it’s the shortest MH game by far so you don’t have nearly as many enemies you have to remember the techniques and move set for. Especially if you use GS or Hammer, where you hit so hard in one go that it counts for more than others when you can get a window to attack. And yeah, Fatalis is insane to grind for. The first two gens are exceedingly grindy but the original 1 and 2 are both short enough to not be egregious… still fun, though! But the Velociprey SUCK regardless.

Still my favorite Monster Hunter. The games that came after it are amazing and Im glad the series evolved and became popular, but nothing gave you the feeling of immersion that MH1 did. You did everything the hard way in MH1. They didnt show you what the monster looked like before you hunted it (it took me 20 minutes to find Khezu the first time because I didnt know he'd be on the ceiling), you had to carry your parts to the smith manually and find the thing you wanted from his unsorted list of goods, and you better bring a lot of those parts because weapon upgrades could cost ridiculous amounts like 20 Machalite for Babels Spear (and Machalite was hard to find). Every Veteran remembers it was 120 Earth Crystals to polish a Rusted weapon, but worth it! They didnt even give you a free weapon for every class, and most of them were more expensive than your starting funds so you'd better get to making a name for yourself! Or more likely sifting through dung for Kut Ku Scales and cooking well done stakes to sell.
@TemplarBlonic6 ай бұрын
MH1 forced you to earn everything through effort. Although 2nd and 3rd gens kept the earth crystal requirement for rusted/ancient shards, nothing matches the steep upward incline of difficulty in MH1… and it makes conquering the game ever more enjoyable!
