Randolph Scott was a great actor and up there with John Wayne, Burton Lancaster and Kirk Douglas with some great all time movies.

As a cub scout I visited Lahaina when this was being filmed. And for years the trees created for the earth quake scene as the truck was driving were easily seen on an unused portion of the road along the pali. The trees were on hinges so they appeared to fall over when a cable was pulled.

Great movie, inspiring musical score. One thing I don't get is Sinatra's character's final decision to go back to Tracy and Charlie, even though "there's nothing you can do". So he shows up, says goodbye to Charlie, gets a glimmer of renewed faith ... but he says goodbye to Tracy and starts to leave. Why? Where was he gonna go? If his character got authentic redemption, shouldn't he have stuck it out with Tracy instead of wanting to leave...?

Cool to see the Lahaina Pioneer Inn when they got off the plane. I used to eat there . Good to see it intact since it was lost in the Lahaina fire a year ago.
