I wish the FF Ursa had a 8K sensor. 12K needs a lot more light. Seems crazy BM make either a 6K sensor or a 12.

I think you hit the nail on the head, as long as you are honest about what has been received, no one can ask for more than that. If they paid for flight, say they paid for flight, if they paid for hotel, say they paid for hotel. I don’t think there is any issue with those things, viewers can make their own decisions once they have the information, you just need to give them that context. From an information gathering perspective, you can get a lot more information at the event, you can help give context for people who are looking for information to guide their decision on preordering. Honest reviews, that give valuable information to consumers will always be valuable. I think the most important thing to provide valuable information is to be consistent, so objective tests, or consistent metrics mean that you can’t be biased at all. If you negatively rate a camera for lack of mechanical shutter, then any other camera should be rated the same way. I think that was the biggest issue with the S9, is that things that were “dealbreakers” on other cameras were downplayed on this camera. These gaps in functionality were just explained away by saying “this camera isn’t for you” or “why would I need that anyway?” For example, many people said how great and amazing the S5II is, they praised its compact size, and how it packed all those features into that body. Then the S9 comes out and people are saying “how could I possibly carry around a camera like the S5II that is heavy and bulky like the S5II, I don’t want to rent a forklift to transport the S5II, I need the portability of the S9 ?” I think the bias can be shown in how a reviewer downplay flaws or highlight benefits. One of the other things is to say “I know I have judged every other camera on its specs, but for this one I will judge it on how it made me feel, I was so inspired and I felt it unlocked my creativity, who even cares if the photo is in focus if it satisfies that creative itch?” When someone does that, naturally people will question why the opinion changes between videos.

The problem with the s9 reviews is that despite the obvious limitations of the camera the review “tone” was so overly positive to the point that it came out as fake! Lastly, Panasonic marketing team thought it was a great idea to use stock images that were taken with a Nikon camera! Pany’s credibility took a serious hit and a lot of reviewers came out as complete shills

Yeah, if for 5 cameras in a row you said “lack of mechanical shutter makes this unsuitable for photo work” and then for this camera you say “I just fell in love with this camera and I don’t care that I have rolling shutter issues due to the lack of mechanical shutter.” People are going to question why your opinion has completely changed for this camera. It could be because this camera has a magical user experience , but people will rightfully suspect that something else changed the opinion. This manifests as “this camera isn’t for you, person who cares about taking good photos”, or “who cares about specs, isn’t it just about how it makes you feel?” This is also a lot easier to do when you can easily avoid any limitation by using one of your other 7 cameras. Like, I feel bored using my work cameras, so someone gave me this camera for free, and I had fun with it, anytime where its obvious limitations caused me any inconvenience I would just switch to a better camera.

The S9's initial marketing didn't go well because it targeted the wrong audience. Some KZfaqrs tried to defend the camera by claiming it wasn't meant for their core audience or that people didn't understand it. At that point, it seemed like they were willing to say or do anything to make the camera look good.

Who gave the wrong cameras to the wrong hands? The brand marketing managment or 'wrong' reviewers already bought it?
@candyartstv

@@tvarqwz Well, someone thought it was a good idea to invite all the hardest-core video and photography KZfaqrs, who went on to call their subscribers haters for merely pointing out what they didn't like about the S9, who, for the most part, are at least somewhat serious about video and photography. The only one to bring up anything about reviews was Gerald, who seemed more upset about Lumix not fully involving him in the release.

It’s a failure in consistency, you talk about how rolling shutter is an issue on this camera, but then on another camera you say “who even cares about that, isn’t it more about how it makes you feel?” It’s perfectly possible that you feel different about this camera, but it is not consistent to apply different metrics to different cameras. This is usually explained away by saying “this camera isn’t for you”, or “this camera is fun, I haven’t felt this inspired to just go out and shoot in so long”. I think most of this is resolved by doing what Doug Demuro does for car reviews, apply a score on every car on what it does well and what it doesn’t do well. If it’s fun because of driving experience, that is fine, it doesn’t make it a great value, and the scores reflect that.

You hit the the correct cord. You all are not full time You Tubers, but full time videographer and cinematographer. The persons bringing this topic are full time You Tubers, basing their living on You Tube, but does not use the cameras as photographers and videographers. As you said it it will be only technical.

CineD, does the best reviews because they are hands on, as you would use on a job. Your points on what you bring to a review, vs other reviews on KZfaq, is completely true and valid, it is why CineD reviews are the most relatable. Your titles are on topic and are refreshingly authentic. You would never post a review title like ( " Panasonic LUMIX GH6: Their Best and Last M4/3 Camera ", with the sub heading calling it the Swan Song M4/3 camera ) just for sh!t$ and giggle$.

For a balanced review for me, is when the reviewer spends just as much time on the Pros as it does the Cons. Too many reviewers will gloss over the negative, spending only a couple seconds stating such and spend the rest of the video going over its positives with high praise. That inherently isn't a balanced way of reviewing. Pro Tip: Next time you watch a camera review (Or any tech review for that matter) pay attention to how long they stay on each topic. And when they state the negatives do they then follow it up with something like "Oh but no one really uses that" or "Its ok not to be good at this thing because its not for the target audience" if they do these things then those are red flags that the review you're watching is biased and not balanced.

If no evf, then high resolution bright screen. I got into cameras 5 years ago. Generally i prefer using the lcd, unless in bright sunlight. I imagine a quality lcd screen uses a lot energy and generates to much heat, and that is why manufacturers stick to dim low rez screens (and $ of course). Camera companies need battery and thermal tech from Apple or Samsung.
@CineD
@CineD 7 күн бұрын
A too bright screen can be problematic because it tricks you into believing your image is properly exposed when it's really underexposed, unless you're looking at the scopes. A sunshade on a screen is the best way to look at out outside as your judgement will not be influenced by the ambient lighting conditions.

Training is not a copyright infringement. We all train using work of others. Filmmakers mimic styles from great movies and even study…. Or “train” looking at great cinematic works… Is this stealing? Should they give royalties to directors they studied? Is anyone upset? Same with musicians, who learn by playing covers. Many bands are influenced by works of other artist. Should they be sued and made to pay royalties to those bands they learned from? Is this stealing? Why is anyone surprised that a machine, designed emulate human thinking learns in a similar way to humans? Fun fact: The human voice cannot be copyrighted. You do not own the sound of your voice. If you did many comedians would be out of business, because they could not do impressions of famous people. All that has changed is that now instead of these things being done by other humans, they are being done by machines. And BTW: why are artist a special case… what about the surgeon whos operations are being used to train the AIs so that they can perform surgeries? Or lawyers, whose cases are being studied… This impacts everyone. Should everybody sue? Maybe it’s better to just find ways to use these tools rather than dwelling in the past?

It's a difficult discussion for sure. Yes, when humans learn and imitate behaviour, it's not copyright infringement. However, a machine is able to process, store and apply information a million times for efficiently and accurately than a human. Should the same rules apply to machines? I don't think so. We will soon be unable to tell what is "original" and what isn't, we probably already are without being aware of it. I'm all for using these tools rather than dwelling in the past, but there need to be guardrails. Otherwise we'll have "lost tracks" from dead musicians turn up suddenly that are marketed as the real thing while they were made by AI, and Picassos that nobody has ever seen before, sold as the real thing. My 2 cents. Nino

I have a question for you. I just bought the Crane 3S pro for $799. I set it up It was easy to do and it works awesome with my Sony 4K camcorder I believe it weighs just over 3 lb and it works awesome on the gimbal with no issues. I also should be receiving the standard Crane 3S tomorrow in the mail It was on sale for $529. With the pro unit I did not open up the accessory boxes just in case I want to do return it. I'm not sure if I would ever use the accessories but for $270 more than the standard I'm thinking it would be in my best interest to keep the pro version in case I end up buying a new camcorder or using my Sony digital SLR camera, what do you think.
