All I'm going to say is this: Players that say git gud are most likely DS3 players that are fanboys who reject any criticism about Fromsoftware games. I myself come from DS2 so I care more about the lore and armor customisation than I do the combat, and totally agree that the dlc in their games are meant to be harder, but fairly certain some people are just tired of it, especially with it being hyped up only for them to hit a brick wall.

I used mimic and rivers of blood and enjoyed the dlc very much. Nobody is cares that you don’t use mimic and meta weapons it’s a video game you can’t put “I beat elden ring” on your resume. I will eventually do a challenge run and give my self a greater challenge but first enjoy the game and then challenge yourself. Nobody is watching you and make sure you don’t “cheese” a boss enjoy the damn game.

I can't help but think this is less a problem of the game being too hard and more of a problem with players no longer having the muscle memory they built up when playing the base game. I mean a lot of streamers spent days if not a couple weeks playing the base game, slowly working their way through harder and stronger enemies before finally finishing the game. That's a lot of time to build up muscle memory and work on decreasing their reaction time. In comparison they are dropping into this dlc 2 years later after all of that hard work is basically gone. And so in comparison to their memory of the game it just seems too hard, when the real problem is they just aren't half as good at the game as when they originally beat it.

I beat the main game and all bosses using cheese tactics (Eleonora's poleblade), I will find a way to do the same in dlc🙏

The reviews and the comments on this video that boil down to "lol, git gud" are exactly why I actively avoid Souls-style games and their fans. So much toxicity to people who just don't find games that are so difficult that they stop being fun.

I get the feeling that with the 2 year release time the developers probably expected the players to be an extremely high level by now so they likely balanced the bosses with characters in the 400+ category of power.

We all know, eventually, the "Git Gud" mentality will win out over time. It happened for every single souls game, and even good souls-like games, like Lies of P.

Isn't the DLC version of a game supposed to be harder then the original? I don't know what everyone was expecting. It seems to me that you can't play the DLC the same way you played the base game.

Do you think it has anything to do with people coming back to the game after a long time and losing all their built up skill or something because this whole situation is just confusing to me most reviews I’ve seen are only even talking about the difficulty and not any genuine complaints

its not hard people say its hard because it is a good approximation of whats the problem, that it's a grind. normal enemies will do roll punishes and flask punishes that do almost as much as a +12 flask heals. I went into a catacombs and it was designed so even though i know where to go I can't just run past the enemies because they can hit you while you run and they make you stay still to wait for dropping ceilings. The number 1 cause of burnout in jobs is having to put in effort without reward and that is huge in the dlc. The main complaints of elden ring at release by people who beat the game was that the late game felt like numbers were just too high starting at around the fire giant and that you had to wait too long to wait for an opening. There were also complaints that by the end of the game exploring felt bad because you already had your build and most likely you didn't need the rewards from areas. Both of these problems are worse in the dlc and i think people are dismayed that a game that was good by most standards failed to improve on its weaknesses and now you have to face the fact you just spent 40$ to play more of the worst part of a good game.

Ok there's difficulty and then there's not being fair I don't think the dlc is fair, it's always a balancing issue but I think Elden ring in general lies too much on the difficulty then making it fun. I can see why people are complaining especially when souls veterans are being like "alright take it down a bit."

It's meant to be difficult. From Software knew that they would have a player build demographic of people who are able to withstand plenty of challenges from the main game, based on the requirements to even enter the DLC. What were players expecting? To come in and two-tap a boss into the floor? Really taking a moment to sit and think about this, it would be unsatisfactory for the vast majority if you could cheese everything with a powerful build, and people would complain that it is too easy. From Software had the foresight to adapt to this and make sure to deliver a gritty and difficult DLC, with its own separate levelling system. It gives incentive to explore and effectively unlock the power of your build. Otherwise, players would just boss-rush, have a fleeting moment of glory, and we're back to square one about it being too easy. All DLC released in the Souls games were always tough. This one is no exception and players need to accept that and adapt. The complaints about performance issues is legitimate though, I expect From Software to step up and release a patch to address it. These issues can impact your performance as a player against normal enemies or bosses, which is not fair.

First off they already explained how the new mechanics work. Second, it's a souls game...we're expected to die. And finally, git gud scrub.

The main criticism is the reused dragon bosses and fking ancient dragon essenax, where the fights are just not very intuitive

The dlc isn't that hard it's just the boss damage tuning needs a lot of work. I'm ng+4 lvl 312 and have 70 vigor and lvl 10 tree fragment yet most bosses I've faced either 1 hit or 2 hit me no matter the attack

People are now just discovering Fromsoft's patented unfair difficulty lol? They can't even tell you a story without you having to go through basic combat training. I mean I agree with the negative reviews. I've been saying the same since Demon Souls. Doesn't mean people are wrong to like or enjoy their games mind you. Just that their brand of "difficulty" is far more niche than what their public reputation would have one believe.

So one of the complaints is about having to use a core mechanic.

My issue is mot the game being hard, but there are many MANY times in the playthrough that i had lag of one second, whcih allowed many enemies to get a cheapshot on me.

I will not lie, without spoiling anything I can admit that there is one boss, which is not the final boss or messemer, which felt impossible for me, even after defeating them I still can’t help but feel like it was a bs fight (even with max level summons). on another note, idk if ppl are actually taking the time to properly level up with the new level system in the dlc, although, I also feel like basically having to start from scratch again is kind of annoying as well.
