Bill, I know as a matter of pride that you want to get a fast time in Chicago, possibly another BQ. However, if you don't get enough quality running work done between now and then, maybe you can re-design your Chicago goal. You could "fun-run" Chicago - years ago when I did Chicago the time limit was 6:30 You could just fun-run it at jogger's pace, merely to get your World Marathon Major finish checked off - then you could run the flat/downhill Cal International Marathon in Sacramento in December to get your BQ [but make sure that Sacramento is BQ-eligible, as so much of it is downhill.] Cal International gets sold out by Fall, so register soon if you want to use it as back-up marathon. Then you could start 2025 with NYC, Boston and Chicago done and then start focusing on the other World Marathon Majors races. You probably know that the Sydney, Australia Marathon is going through a two-year application process to be added to the World Marathon Majors, so hurry up and get your six-star medal before it gets more complicated with the addition of Sydney.

@@cathynewyork7918 Thanks for the comments, Cathy. I definitely am considering altering my goals for Chicago depending upon how this plays out. My number one goal at the moment is to get there and finish
@cathynewyork7918Сағат бұрын
@@oldmanvanrunning Yes, Bill, do re-consider your Chicago goals. If you are having "niggles" then you might not be up to the pounding and stress required for the speedwork you need for a BQ at Chicago, but you MAYBE CAN do the easy, old-lady-pace endurance runs that will help you finish Chicago within the 6:30, six and a half hour time limit. You still get the credit toward your Six-Star Medal, whether you finish in 6:25 or 3:25. Then you can get well, and come back in 2025 to do a PR that impresses those of us who are your subscribers. PS: I am NOT going to volunteer to come there and massage you "down there" where it hurts !!!!

Would you take this one over the Tempus for overall versatility? I’m looking for something that’s relatively stable that I can use for training and some races. I can’t justify buying multiple shoes at this point.
@oldmanvanrunningКүн бұрын
Thanks for your question 👍 The Tempus is the more versatile option. Another (but much pricier) option would be the ASICS Superblast 2.

I’m a bigger runner (6’5”, 235-ish) and have been running with the Adrenaline 20, ready to get a new shoe. Looking at either the Tempus or the Glycerin 20. Some knee and heel pain at times. Which would you recommend? Currently at about a 9 minute 5k race pace, hoping to get down to 8 minutes.
@oldmanvanrunningКүн бұрын
Thanks for the question! 👍 If you're not running heavy long miles, the Tempus could be the perfect versatile option. The Glycerin 20 has more cushioning but is heavier and not as responsive. Either one, however, will be an improvement over the Adrenaline in my opinion.

I bought the wide version just for walking and because there's very limited selections for wide feet here. I love this shoes because of the silhouette and they ditched the hard plastic trusstic tech. I think it's leaps and bounds above the previous versions. And the stack height is so high, they actually make me taller about 3-4 cm. Note: I wonder why all running shoes companies suddenly have very similar designs. Asics, HOKA and Adidas have new releases that are practically indistinguishable if not for the huge brands slapped on the sides.
@oldmanvanrunning2 күн бұрын
Thanks for checking in! 👍 Glad they're working out for you! As for your observation, there definitely is a push towards higher stack max-cushioned shoes with less pronounced stability features. My guess is it's due to shoe companies following the market trends (what seems to be selling).

Thanks for the question! 👍 These aren't the lightest option, but would be fine if the goal is just to finish. There are other options out there, such as the ASICS Superblast 2 (very pricey, though) oer the Saucony Tempus, which lighter and more responsive.

Hi, Bill - I did buy a pair of Asics Gel Kayano 31, as I told you earlier that I would. You are so right!!! They are fabulous!! I love them! Immediately after I bought them at the running store in Columbus Circle in Manhattan, I went over to New York Road Runners' "RunCenter" on 57th Street - I locked my old Asics Gel Kayano 30's in a NYRR locker, put on the new shoes, and trotted two blocks north for a short run in Central Park. Glorious! I mean glorious for both the shoes and Central Park!!! I will use these news shoes for a week or so - then if all goes well, I will buy a second pair for the New York City Marathon in November. Thank you for the recommendation.

@@oldmanvanrunning Bill, thank you for your reply. I'm glad you have no issues, after you had "hot spot" issues in previous versions. My only "issue" is that I was too lazy to do 15 whole miles today like you did!
@andyn60539 күн бұрын
I have the same problem with Kayano 30. Size 44.5 fits perfect but there's some rubber material used to reinforce the front of the mesh in the forefoot that rubbed against my big toe and created friction. I sized up 1/2 size to size 45 but then I had to tie the laces really hard since the shoe was little too roomy and big (I have the wide version). Thus It felt like I cut off the blood transportation to my feet. Considering trying to return them since I only used them indoors soo far. Also found the Kayano 30 too be very clunky and sluggish to run with, not as all like the Kayano 28 which I loved.
@oldmanvanrunning8 күн бұрын
@andyn6053 I also enjoyed the 28. This version is great so far! Took it out for fifteen miles today, and not a single hot spot or any other issue. Great update!

I am going to run a marathon on September 1 where the route has 10 km of slight uphill and the last 13 km of downhill, with the rest being flat. According to your video, the soucony pro 4 is a good option for marathons. I want to know if it is comfortable in the finger area, that is, is it wide? in that part? I recently bought the soucony speed 4 and they felt narrow in that part. Thanks for your support

@oldmanvanrunning12 күн бұрын
@HAIV1W Welcome to the channel! 👍🏻 I think the best Gel-Kayano yet is the 31 for running. As far as walking, I would pick the 28 personally because it fits me better than the 29 and 30, and it's cushioning is excellent but not overdone. Also, you can get great deals on the 28 if it's still available. Just my opinion.

If it's a Gel-Kayano 30, why does it say "Gel-Nimbus" on the box when you open it? Did ASICS make a mistake printing the box?
@oldmanvanrunning12 күн бұрын
@drluisgoncalves Not at all. If you noticed, both the Gel-Kayano and Gel Nimbus on the inside cover are because they are basically sister shoes. The Gel-Kayano is like a stability version of the neutral Gel Nimbus. This is just a marketing thing.

Similar problem in nimbus 26 - seems that toebox reinforcement sometimes rub on side of my forefoot, use it only for recovery 1h runs and it's not very bad but long runs in it won't be good idea Bigger problem though is upper is very hot, is winter here in Au now so all good for now but in summer this shoe won't get any use.... Apart of upper problems I really like it - my first nimbus- hope they make upper more breathable and thiner - if they do nimbus could be my best of recovery slow plodder

I am happy for you that the "hot spots" problem is resolved in this newer version. I believe the reason I didn't have that problem is that I am a slow runner, so my foot never moved around with enough friction to cause a hot spot. It's just you "speedsters" who suffered.
