I know this video is older, but I don't know any programs that require the GRE. 🤔 It's really not a tool which represents how successful a person will be in school, or as a nurse practitioner. If a standardized test is something schools would like to have to screen for ability - then the governing body for nursing education (national or state) should design a test reflecting one's nursing skills, critical thinking skills... and I'd argue part of the test should be to determine someone's level of empathy and psychological soundness! To think being able to score well on a non-nursing or healthcare specific test like a GRE automatically equates to being a great NP is ridiculous. Many attributes of a great care provider cannot be quantified on a standardized written test.

This was so informative - thank you! So basically an ACNP can work in a specialty outpatient clinic - ie; nephrology? Thank you!

Hi Bree. I moved to GA as a new NP and have had a difficult time finding a job as a new grad despite applying to over 100 places. Do you have any resources you can recommend or places you can connect me to ? Thank you much. God bless.!!

Hey, welcome! Check out local groups like UAPRN of Ga. Membership is cheap, meetings are great for networking and they have an internal job board.

Is NP really worth it after 20 years as a RN…. Seems like alot of responsibilities for not enough pay. Tbh

I’m actually interested in both. I have always wanted AGACNP but wanted FNP in case I wanted to do something different later on. I actually found a school that offers a dual program for both certifications but I’m worried about working in hospital setting for years then later wanting to work outpatient as FNP and needing to brush up on skills.

Thank you for the insight. I begin my new job as ACNP for a vascular group next week. As a critical care nurse with 18 years experience, the Imposter Syndrome feels very real.

Thank you for this . I really just want to be a wound care nurse NP , but there's no programs just for that and I keep hearing that FNP program is overflooded and everyone does it. It just deterred me until I remembered a NP was doing wound care at the wound clinic , but she was ACNP

Same thing essentially. The G stands for geriatric. These programs have an added focus on caring for the adult-geriatric population.

I need help I'm a cvicu nurse and just got accepted into an fnp program. As of right now I want to work in some sort of outpatient specialty preferably cardiology. If I did fnp could I go back and get another certification in acute care in a reasonable amount of time to work in the hospital?
@BreeJuskowiak2 ай бұрын
Yes and you would be highly marketable. It would take you 2-3 semesters. But if you want to do outpatient and inpatient cardiology it’s not necessary to have your FNP you can do that with AGACNP alone.

Why is America downgrading the health care to NP instead of qualified doctors? In future, lets allow 5 year experienced MA to work like NP, they know equally. NP who has 17 month of training is not F*ing touching me. WannabeDoctor pretenders!!!

Im struggling with finding which specialty. I need a remote job due to health issues which makes me lean towards psych but my true passion lies in chronic illnesses but FNPs make the same as RNs in my state and it is oversaturated so not worth the return of investment :(

Thank you for this video; it has given me a lot of education about the difference between the ACNP and FNP roles. I just started my FNP classes last summer not really understanding that ACNP was even an option. I don't regret my decision to start my FNP, and I'm hoping I enjoy it, but it's good to know there are other options in case it's not for me.

One small word of advice, if you are doing a zoom interview be aware of your body movements and hands. Everytime she hits her hands on her desk it's distracting and loud. It might be helpful to aim the camera not below, where she is looking down but more head on if possible. Sometimes sounds are more magnified in the online environment than they would be if you were face to face.

Nurse for 14yrs, OCN, & Oncology chemo RN for 12. Im currently doing the BSN-DNP adult-gero primary care & Oncology program. Im very passionate about malignant-heme and I recently applied for acute-care post masters because i want to manage CRS & ICANS in acute care setting for patients on Car-T and BiTe tx. I hope Im doing the right thing. I got my masters and primary care cert (while in the program) & im currently doing Onco 3 and will sit for aocnp in May 2024, then start my acute care np in the summer on top of my DNP and I know it will be a lot but my malignant heme patients inspire me! I left the hospital 4 years ago and started giving chemo in an outpatient setting while in NP school but like you I am a hospital girl. Thanks for sharing this.

I'm also a dual ACNP/FNP. I was a critical care RN before embarking on my NP career. I really wanted the flexibility of the dual certification, so if I decide to do travel NP down the road, I wouldn't be limited. It really helped me get my foot in the door as a new grad because I had nearly double the clinical hours. I had ICU, hospitalist and ER clinical hours in addition to FNP clinical hours. Was definitely worth it pursuing the dual degree!
