A real toe-tapper, and good sound quality. Per the record sleeve image, what exactly is 'lateral cut?'
@ThePhonographStop
@ThePhonographStop Күн бұрын
Thanks! Lateral cut means it was laterally recorded which all records are recorded by. Back then they had Vertically recorded 78rpm records which were played differently. For instance, Pathe 80rpm discs were vertical Hill and Dale recordings and were played with a sapphire ball stylus. Edison 80rpm discs were recorded vertically and played with an Edison diamond stylus. Hope this helps!

I bet the Edison company loved this, it made their phonographs sound outdated,one reason Victor won out

Was the vid title of 'Baltimore RAG' just a mistake, or were you planning to upload an actual song called 'Baltimore Rag?'

Thanks for this! Are most 78s shellac and just the very earliest are not? Mine are all from 40's and 50's... all pressed in Canada except a few in England.
@ThePhonographStop

Very early Berliner discs were made of a celluliod compound which later turned to shellac. By the mid to late 1940s they started adding a softer material to the records in light of the creation of needle cartridge. Hope this helps!

Recorded on September 7, 1934. The "straight" version {take 1} was released on Victor 24721. "E. Wallerstein" was Edward Wallerstein, head of {RCA} Victor records from 1932 through 1939. He then became president and chairman of the board of Columbia records {afrter CBS bought the company the year before}- and helped develop and introduce their "Long Play" 33rpm record in 1948. He left Columbia in 1951, working for several labels until his departure from Belock Instrument Corp., who marketed Everest records, in 1960. He died in 1970.
