Don't know what i'm doing wrong but every mead i've made comes out horrible. I've made some awesome fruit wines but mead always comes out tasting really nutty or cardboardy like it's been oxidised or something
@ChooRoo3 күн бұрын
@callandemo there are so many variables to consider, time being critical. 6 months is my go to minimum before a mead starts to taste proper. Yeast nutrient is also a key factor. Happy yeast = happy mead.

@@ChooRoo thanks, yeah I've bought fermaid nutrients nefore and tried them, funnily enough the only mead I've made that come out good was my first test ever, the Joe's ancient orange recipe which seems to go against everything people say lol.

Heccck yeah! This is awesome, Ill def be trying this, thanks! I've heard the chilli can transfer into the next batch of mead through the fermenter, have you found this? Keen to track you down for a hi-5 and a bottle of sauce too!
@ChooRoo3 күн бұрын
Oh for sure chilli can stick around. A good scrub typically gets the job done provided there is no leeching. Remember capsaicin (the chemical that makes chillies hot) is basically an oil, so like most oils it's kind of a prick to remove. With my sauce pots, you know all about it, with the fermenter it's not so bad as the quantity is relatively small.

The best thing… salt is an enhancer not a seasoning. It brings out more flavor of what you add it to. Sprinkle a little salt on some fruit, it’s quite nice, brings out the sweetness.

Great video. Another reason why tapping the mushrooms is a bit silly is because the overwhelming majority of the spores have already been released once the pileus/cap has opened. Also hyphae is plural and the singular is hypha. Thanks for spreading knowledge about fungi!

Lovely video peeps. Would you have any book or resources recommendations for South Australian mushroom foraging? Often i go to kuitpo forest and the like for saffron caps but want to expand my knowledge. Any tips appreciated.
@ChooRoo23 күн бұрын
Cheers buddy. "Wild Mushrooming: A guide for foragers" by Alison Pouliot and Tom May is pretty good. Not perfect but pretty damn good. Also local facebook groups like "Mushroom Foragers of South Australia" is a pretty good brains trust too, and the admin. Kate, AKA The Wild Food Huntress" actually runs mushrooming courses in Kuitpo, def. worth a look :)

I have five kegerators. I had considered converting one to grow mushrooms in to manage the temperature, but need to also consider humidity management. Is this just a bad idea or ? I live where it is often over 110F with 10% humidity for much of the summer. Winters are rarely below freezing with high humidity.
@ChooRoo24 күн бұрын
It really depends on the species you are wanting to grow. That being said I am no expert in growing, I am pretty well versed in foraging as that is my jam, being out in the woods. One major thing to consider is air flow. I would assume you would need to have air constantly pumping in and out which I assume you would have to jerry rig the kegerator with some kind of fan system..
