Sadly, maestro Ozawa passed away last week. He’ll be greatly missed, and will live on in his numerous recordings. This performance is quite amazing. It may be an old recording, but it possesses a balance to the sound engineering that the other's lack. This is best heard at the amazing climax 27:45 - through 28:53. In most recordings you can barely hear the brass over the wind machine and strings arpeggios.

Rostropovich, certo... Pierre Fournier, assolutamente. Pablo Casals, non si discute. E poi Tortelier, Maisky, Gendron.Mainardi.Tutti E poi Starker e Yo Yo Ma. Tutti grandissimi virtuosi dello strumento.. Ma la voce del violoncello di Jacqueline resta unica, inconfondibile, inimitabile, con un che di vibrante e drammatico che la distingue da ogni altra. Non solo nel "suo" Concerto di Elgar, ma anche in questo numero 1 di Haydn, così tenero e luminoso..

This a huge, lush interpretation by Dupre and Barenboim. It's big with nuance! Like an amazing Syrah. Given how much she played the Romatics, I am thrilled to hear this. Somehow she finds the passion in what could be a metronomic performance.
