I wish I could have a video chat, or to simply be right there where you're at and work side-by-side with you to learn everything that you are willing to teach me about making those types of wooden staff that beautiful. I live in Alaska and I am a staff maker at the age of 34 I just started with staffs and I have quite a bit of tools. I'm not great but I've made a couple very beautiful ones, right now I'm starting to try to learn how to carve and etch wood, but to learn how to make diamond willow be as beautiful as the ones in your thumbnail, I need more training please! Sensai!

I've got a twisted vine walking stick. It was rough when I got it. I cleaned it thoroughly and clear coated it with a rattle can. It sealed up nicely. I've got a crutch tip on the bottom and I'm waiting to receive my cue ball in the mail. I'm gonna dremel the cue ball until it fits over the top, then 2 part epoxy the cane into it. I think a cue ball will make a comfortable handle.

@@waynemathias5413 it's a white cue ball. Sorry to disappoint. It's off white like the rubber tip. All earth tones. I'm afraid an 8ball, as cool as they are, would look gaudy. I ordered it on Amazon.

A Schnitzelbunk or Shaving Horse was a tool used for hundreds of years to help shape wood. The shaving horse is a simple foot-operated vice that allows you to hold a piece while having both hands free to work.

I wish you could too. I'm sure it won't be as beautiful as your works of art. However I'm very thankful I came across your video. Thanks for the advice! I didn't know. See you already saved me from ruining it. 😃 Can you suggest what type of finish and sealant would work best for dog wood?
@waynemathias54135 жыл бұрын
Watch oil is my favorit finish stick with 200 sand paper and apply the Watco oil with a clean rage let stand for 10 min's they wipe it down with a white rag every couple of hr.'s till no color is on the white cloth, let dry a couple of days and presto your cane is finish. if you want to varnish later use varathane ( not nessary)

One thing I don't understand about this story. Why wasn't the president of the homeowner's association arrested? Why aren't there felony charges against him? Where I live, if I vandalized a church or a church display, I would be arrested and spending a few nights in jail.
