I would literally commit war crimes if that meant I could see the directors cut. It doesn't actually exist but the material,the scenes do. I think this movie clocks in at about 150 minutes, Scorseses real vision would clock in at about 240 minutes but it wasn't realized, Harvey Weinstein said the obvious thing "It's too long,you gotta cut it. Said no woman ever." No,he didn't say that last part but it was obviously too long so Scorsese went to work, trimmed it And released it. He said he will never release a directors cut cause it might end up proving Harvey right. I guess it means if he DC didn't make the movie alot better, Harvey would be right in that movies should not be too long...But it's a god damn directors cut! That's a movie for fans mostly, it's unlikely to play in cinemas so the length isn't really an issue. And this is way before everyone knew about Harveys sick transgressions so this was about something else. Its just very petty behaviour from Marty, unless he really hated Weinstein and didn't want him to make a nickle more than stipulated. C😢ause Marty wanted to make this movie for about 30... Again,for about THIRTY YEARS! It's your baby you've been obsessing about for so long, you're not gonna shape it and mold exactly the you want to? You're Martin Scorsese. To cave like that for a real like that...yes,the directors cut might not have been a better movie but at least it would be a fully formed, complete film. It has a few issues and things move to fast,characters disappear and issues are resolved in what must be off screen. The narrative would've been allowed to breathe, I'm pretty convinced that movies second best performance,Brendan Gleesons Monk.has a couple of scenes on the cutting floor. Now especially,with the sex crimes, it's guaranteed we will see the full vision despite that Harvey has nothing artistic to do with the actual movie. The production of this movie was apparently a real nightmare and ,Marty concidered retiring,thank god he didnt. But he made an artistic blunder imo, too bad.

You completely missed the point, it’s meant to be unrealistic. Not every movie has to be realistic. There is clearly an element of fantasy/ dream like narrative going on here. This opening scene is considered legendary, the whole movie isn’t but this opening scene is.
