Yes small shrubs please! Suggestions full sun?? I’m in the Detroit area my beds line a golf course. I’m tired of dividing perennials, keeping them contained and tidy. I’m currently taking out coreopsis and looking for 2’-3’ shrubs (so I don’t block our golf course view). I’m loving my new puggster. Lots of deer browsing. Suggestions?? Thank you Matthew🌸

My familiarity with deer resistant shrubs isn't as good because I've never lived where I could potentially have issues until now. But, my immediate thought is you check out items in Proven Winners "deer proof" line that are deer resistant. They've reorganized this category and started putting them in special containers that say "deer proof". Nothing, of course, is deer proof. But, it'll easily give you an idea of varieties or species that are more deer resistant. www.provenwinnerscolorchoice.com/deer-resistant/

Hi Matthew! Considering all of the wind you got, everything is still looking beautiful. I can see why you get so much joy looking at your hydrangea hedge, it's beautiful! I'm looking forward to the hydrangea trial you will be doing. They're going to be so pretty under your trees. The new hydrangeas that you will be adding to fence will look pretty there. Thank you so much for sharing!

Lord, have mercy, Matthew. I live on the southeastern NC coast. 91 degrees/85% humidity. I break out in a sweat walking to my mailbox down my short little driveway. When I stop working in my yard for the day, I am the poster girl for hot mess-literally! The humidity in my area is so thick, that I get super sweat soaked in the evening. Good luck with all your new plants.

I was watering for an hour today and it was overcast with a breeze and I'm sweating terribly! So humid in Ohio! 😂 I've been looking for small evergreens to plant besides arborvitae and boxwood (i dont want to have to shear). What are your suggestions? Ohio zone 6.
@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden 19 сағат бұрын
So, those are some things that I'm going to start looking for to incorproate some winter interest as perennials die down in winter. I've not found myself having to prune arborvitae , so I do recommend them quite often for that reason to people who can grow them. There are a lot of varieties that grow into perfect to almost perfect balls or ovals. Pancake, Little Giant, Mr. Bowling Ball, Anna's Magic Ball, etc. Many other evergreens will require some type of pruning, but I'm testing out the Sweet and Lo Sweetbox I've mentioned several times. I'm liking it so far. It should not require as much dealing with as boxwood and can take a great deal of shade if necessary.

Hahahahaha! I'm in Birmingham, and we hit 100% humidity more than once over the weekend. I was installing a cantilevered umbrella with a ground-staked 4x4 in the middle of my dwarf hollies. I fully sweat through no less than 5 sets of clothing in two days, even avoiding all sun. Even with quick-dry clothing, the struggle is still real!

Hi Matthew! I bought my 2 Kingsley honeysuckle 7 years ago and planted them in urns that crawl up an Arbor as you enter our side yard. I love them and even have some variegated grass and zinnias. My Arbor and urns are black so they really pop. I too us black as my accent color.

😂 No one wants to see themselves sweaty! ❤ OMG! Every year you make me watch to buy up all the bushes/trees at Lowe’s , but where to put them is the problem. Deer and a pet goat are evil for plants so I have mini cages around a dozen plants around the property until they’re large enough to survive. 😊

Have two styrax trees. One is now 20 years old, and when it is blooming and you stand under it, you are in a cloud of white, with a lovely fragrance. The ground looks like it is covered in snow when the blooms fall. It is now about 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide. The other one is a dwarf styrax. About 12 x 7 I hope. It was planted in place of a crape Myrtle from which the squirrels could access the roof and did all kinds of damage. It has darker leaves and against the dark leaves the little bells look lovely. I love the tree. It does have much smaller leaves than the Stairway to Heaven you have. Bet it will look great.

Thank you for that! I don't include it most times because I find it boring myself to watch things being planted over and over again in every video. Most everyone knows what they should do for planting. This time it was an opportunity to educate about exposing the root flare. :)

You go Matthew ! Tell them like it is ! It’s hot, it’s humid, and I at least pour buckets of sweat ! You probably changed your tee shirt because when I come back from outside mine is visibly wet from sweat. I can also wring out the sweat from my handkerchief that I roll up and wear around my head to keep the sweat from getting in my eyes. I know a gross picture I’m painting BUT thats our kind of weather and it’s not pretty. 🌺💚🙃
