Oil doesn’t break down at rest. If it did, it would have to have a “sell by” or “use by” date on the bottle, like milk. It has a usage limit because it picks up particulates during use and breaks down from heat cycles. If you want to do it anyway, go for it. Not my monkeys or my circus.

No offense but this video was terrible. The cadence, voice, cuts, narration, and choice of some of the photos/clips were all hard to watch. Keep up the hard work, keep learning, and improving. You’ll get there.

Oil change necessary in very cold/warm environments atleast every 6 months, regardless of mileage. Non-extreme weather can go a decent amount of time, 8 months just fine on very minimal driving as long as the car is started regularly. If aggressively using your car, definitely do the oil change at or before recommended. Always best to advise, but regardless, the customer is right. No point arguing if they want something done.

Not change it but Tell her I changed it 😅

It's more for him than the car. If he dragged himself in for the oil change, he's going to want it done. You give him the senior discount and a calendar and a keychain and any other goodies and you thank him for his business and you invite him to come back and you wish him good health. Unless you know that the guy can't afford the job or is confused or something like that. That's a different story. But just a regular guy who's slowed down a little wanting the oil done? Go for it.
@gottafly308 күн бұрын
oil doesn't degrade that quickly. for example, the shelf life of conv oil is 5 years. the customer is good for a year, at least. the mechanic is correct.
@BigMoney232238 күн бұрын
It’s always comical when the ones who make the cars to sell you come out with “new” ways for you to maintain it. Cause clearly they don’t have an incentive for things to break down. I’m not trusting oil that’s more than half a year old to not break down. Oil is cheap, engines aren’t. Or the “lifetime” oil they put in transmissions. I don’t trust any of the recommendations set by companies that run on giving them money

They do need an oil change. After 6 months the oil is breaking down. Once it is heat cycled once it starts break down. Might look clean but you don't know the true velocity of the oil
@10thFTW8 күн бұрын
I'd change it just for the 8 months.

@joshuamouton38258 күн бұрын
Yeah they still need an oil change oil still breaks down your supposed to change it every 3 months or 3-5000 miles.
@holyfunions3 күн бұрын
If oil sits in the container for 3 months, should it be thrown out? If it doesn’t have a “use by” date, I’m not doing it within a timeframe. Only a usage limit that’s quantified by miles driven.

Oil still degrades from oxygen exposure. Old person is correct
@Killertomato848 күн бұрын
conventional oil yes, synthetic oil can last up to a year if you're not putting heavy miles on a vehicle. Now if you live in a place that goes from extreme cold to extreme heat regularly, change every season, but that vehicle looks garage kept so it'll be fine.
@dannylabonte36098 күн бұрын
Drain it and put it back in the engine if you don’t see anything in it. Look the car over for her and you might find something else that really needs attention. Stay legit and you might just have a customer for life. Remember it could be your grandparents someone is taking advantage of. There are tons of other ppl pulling in that need repairs.

Watching this, it strikes me that the average person is pretty stupid! The frightening thing is that means that 50% are even more stupid! Of course, there is stupidity, and then there is ignorance. The one is excusable, but the other is not. You deal with the hand you are dealt. The most important thing you can learn in your education is not what you learn, but HOW to learn. The information you need for virtually anything in life is out there; you just have to seek, and you will find.
