Thanks for the overview. This is definitely a collection that I'm giving serious thought to...not just because I have all the other Gauntlet S/Ls of the RJ series, but am very interested to read the short stories featuring the character. I suspect I've probably read the stories elsewhere at some points along the line, but if I have they've completely escaped my memory. Not wild about the cover with its oversized cockroach and throwing star, but that aside it's one of the better cover that Gauntlet has done for a while (which isn't saying much, but...).
@itsterrific19 күн бұрын
As much as I love all of the RJ novels, I feel like he’s tailor made for short stories. Each “fix it”, is a story in itself. The earliest stories still tend to be my favorite. Jack was more raw and rough.

Great review, thanks. Smith get's very little love on KZfaq which is a shame because he is such an excellent writer, hes won more British Fantasy awards for his short fiction than any other writer. The Dark Land being my personal favorite. He has written novels under four different names, he uses Michael Marshall Smith for his short fiction, science fiction and more fantasy kind of stuff. Under the name Michael Marshall he writes thrillers many of which have a supernatural component. he also wrote the Upright man trilogy which is about a secret society/ conspiracy of serial killers and those that try and stop them - a brutal but brilliant series. He wrote The Servants as M.M.Smith a YA novel that was nominated for the World fantasy Award. As Michael Rutger he has written two novels, these have both had overt Fortean themes and read like adventure stories also with a paranormal or mystery component. I think Smith writes something for every one if you like fantastical fiction, science fiction, horror or thrillers. shame he's so under appreciated. Happy reading.
