Hey Len, just to clarify: You left your high-paying corporate job to start a State Farm agency?
@Imagine-biz Жыл бұрын
Yes but I would never advise anybody to do it. There’s better more profitable ways of venturing into financial services then this opportunity. The PNC opportunity is a grind and it will be many years before you potentially can breakeven. I’d look towards the life insurance and financial planning sector instead. Much more lucrative and you can start it while you have your full-time job. Do a little research. There’s a Lotta good financial services marketing opportunities out there. Just be careful about what you choose.

@@Imagine-biz @Len Perroots Thank you so much for replying! I will definitely do more research. There are recruiters from Farmers and State Farm trying to recruit me to start my own agency but all of them are pushing for life insurance instead of Home & Auto. I know SF can be very competitive to certain customers but as an agent, you don't get to own your Book of business, and I don't see the purpose of grinding so hard if that is the case. Also, when it comes to Farmers (Can I be honest with you?) ... Although Farmers allows you to own your book of business, I am not too sure how competitive Farmers really is against their competitors. What are your thoughts on this? I'd love to hear your opinion
@Imagine-biz Жыл бұрын
@@alistaircollins8721 The captive game can really price you out of the market at times. You are lured in with subsidies and support. The P&C business will always be a commodity based business, so if you are in that type of business, you are better being independent. If you want to be in the P&C business, my advice is to first work for an independent agency so you get good experience and make money. Regardless of what you do, keep in mind that if you start a P&C business (captive or Indy), you will start and stay in the RED for a while, so you better have savings to subsidize you while you grow. And it will likely take 2-3 years if you have an office and staff to break even. Then you need to give time to become profitable. Work for an agency first, learn the business, and only then make a decision. Hope that helps.

Agreed. They only have Terminal - not Critical or Chronic. Not saying they are bad because they are not. But if living benefits is important to you, there are several companies that offer Terminal, Chronic and Critical ABRs in term insurance. I was a top agent for one of the leading term carriers with living benefits. But protection is the #1 priority - everything else, including living benefits and tax benefits should be secondary.

Wait a minute, let me understand. You are saying take a $100,000 of your own money (that you have to pay interest to borrow against) to purchase a whole life policy worth only $50k more? Why in the world would you do that when you can purchase a term policy (which is still tax free at distribution) for MUCH cheaper and invest the difference at a much higher interest rate? If you purchase a whole life policy today for 100k and you die tomorrow, that policy was ridiculously expensive. Buy a term policy today for the same amount at 60/month and die tomorrow, you still have the 100k plus the payout from your policy.

Actually... American Can (predecessor to Primerica Corp), bought AL Williams and MILICO. Shortly thereafter, American Can became Primerica Corp. Primerica Corp acquired Commercial Credit, Smith Barney, Fingerhut and other companies. Primerica Corp. renamed AL Williams to Primerica Financial Services. Then Primerica Corp. merged into Travelers Corp, which was ultimately acquired by CitiCorp. The new parent company was named CitiGroup. After the financial meltdown in the late 2000s, CitiGroup needed to divest its holdings, and Primerica was spun off into its own independent public company (probably the best thing that ever happened to them. The ownership by Travelers/CitiGroup was NOT a good mix). What else would you like to know? I could go on and on and tell you about when Sandy Weill brought on Pete Dawkins to try to take the place of Art Williams in the early 90s. Or about the incredibly dark era that the company felt when initially bought by Travelers. Let's talk about dishonesty. Go to the Primerica video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gt5il9iYnJnFY4E.html and look at the photo in the 2minute 14 second marker. What do you think is missing? Too many assumptions here for his arguments to be solid countered conclusions. Good thing I am IAR licensed and know how to use multiple strategies and show the math. Assuming all the money will go to an annuity is too general btw. And yes, Primerica would use one great company solution that is best for the client, while disagreeing with another product that isn't best for the client. The solution is the key here, not the company. And if the math from a comprehensive comparative game plan shows that an existing product is the best solution, I will recommend they stay with that product. If the person with a cash value policy dies before they can borrow at interest on their own cash value/savings they still lose all their savings/cash value to the insurance company rather than being able to leave it to their beneficiaries right? If so I think these cash value policies are still a rip off. It would be better to put the money in a different savings investment strategy despite being taxed. Annuities you can still leave to beneficiaries right? I think that's a big difference from my perspective.

Isn't Primerica gone?? Didn't AL Williams become Primerica and they later sold?? Wasn't Hegemon ( HGI) started in 2012 , an offshoot of old AL Williams? Fact: isn't it true that less than 2% of all term policies ever pay a death benefit? Wondering. Whole life can be good if you're looking to guarantee Insurability. Term ends or can be converted , but if you're sick and already own a whole life, term would do you no good as it could terminate or become cost prohibitive before you pass. One final point: The best life policy, of any type, is the one that's in place when you pass away.
@Imagine-biz4 жыл бұрын
Primerica is still alive - yep it came from AL Williams, was sold to Travelers/Citigroup, then spun off into its own independent publicly-traded company (NYSE: PRI). HGI was indeed founded by the top builder in ALW. And YES!!! Less than 2% of all term policies ever pay a death benefit. But I don't want to be a part of that 2%. Term insurance is so cheap, you can "rent" millions of dollars of convertible insurance ("ensure" your "insurability"). In any case, life insurance creates an estate out of thin air. The best policy is the one that is in-force on the day that you die.
@johnd95414 жыл бұрын
In that sense, Term isn't "life" insurance, its premature death insurance, and it's designed to expire long before you will ever need it.

And that man (and 24 of his top lieutenants) was Hubert "Steely" Humphrey. And their earnings are all based on events that happened 30 years ago during the explosion phase of "MLM Meets Insurance".
@johnd95414 жыл бұрын
Because term life becomes unaffordable during the period your are mathematically guaranteed to die, and is dropped, its actually pre-mature death insurance, not life insurance. Fewer than 2% of term policies ever payout on an annual basis. And lets face it, MLMs are great at showing statistics about most people being two weeks away from bankruptcy if they lose their job. Many of those same people are 50-65 years old. So lets face it, people arent financially secure later in life, unless they get a good job, something that MLM can;t offer.
@johnd95414 жыл бұрын
Its doubtful those avoiding MLM would use Vanguard because Vanguard owns stock in MLM. So they win either way and by targeting the same victims. As for face value, it really has no relevance with term policies because few ever pay out, because they're dropped before people typically die. If you buy a new car and the dealer offers to insure your tires against wear for 90 days, would you pay extra? Of course not, because you know tires last 2-3 years. Same with term.....its like that 90 day tire policy.

Yes and no. The founder of ALW was Art Williams, and yes, Hubert Humphrey was there in ALW and brought his system to ALW, which then became Primerica.
