Great idea. I'd paint the inside of the windows as I can't access the outside (too high up). I'll give it a go!

it may work but it will make the glass dirty looking. I guess there's no solution that will keep the glass the way it is.

Asking for recommendations for removing the soap lines. We were quite enthusiastic applying the soap lines. They have hardened. This is a rental so I need to safely take off the pressed on and dried soap. Has been working really well for a robin that was attacking his reflection in my window starting at 5:45 am and continuing all day.

I assume some warm water and a sponge or a kitchen scrubby would make quick work of it. In the worst case, an inexpensive razor blade scraper would 100% do the trick.

I remember as a teenager, around Halloween time, how much we worried about the birds flying into windows. We spent alot of time going around at night with our bars of soap making sure we made as many windows as we could be visible to our little winged buddies!

Thank you so much for your video. Here in the the north of England, I've started using this method on the outside of my kitchen window. It was effective immediately. The tempera paint markings can withstand a few rain showers. And, when you need to renew the markings, the old design easily washes off with soapy water. A cheap, easy and successful method of stopping bird collisions on windows.

It really works! We had two finches (live in Feilding, New Zealand) constantly fluttering up to the window and depositing dirt on it. Just left the soap up for a couple of days, and then it was useful when I washed it off. But I see now that they have gone on to a more up-market home across the road!

I suppose you're one of those that also thinks it's tacky to decorate windows at Christmas? It's only temporary to protect the birds you old fuddy duddy. Geez, so critical.

An important message here; thanks for sharing this information, and caring so lovingly for the birds' bodies. One slight criticism: I wish you hadn't shown some helpers handling the birds bare-handed. My girlfriend is a lab tech in a major animal health diagnostic center, in the lab that (among other things) tests for avian influenza. It is a serious enough hazard that the CDC requires them to do any testing that may involve H5N1 exposure in a BSL 3 lab (changing clothes, using wraparound disposable gowns, and full respirator). In recent weeks, a panther from a nearby zoo had to be processed this way, when it was discovered it died of H5N1 (likely contracted from a bird eaten within its zoo enclosure). In the last few months, they've seen a significant increase in the number of H5N1 cases. Avian flu does not normally infect humans, but there have been rare cases, and there is concern about new strains. Be careful handling wild birds, esp. if you are handling large numbers of them.

Better suggestion from another KZfaq video. Get a white marker for making temporary marks on glass. Take a level and make vertical lines 4” apart from top to bottom. Birds are most adverse to trying to fly through the vertical lines because their wings spread out horizontally. Anything not vertical, they may still try to fly through, with horizontal lines being the least effective. Making clean vertical lines is most effective without making your windows look, well, like she made them look in this video.

YES YES YES!!! We tried EVERYTHING for a pesky young Cardinal who was driving us CRAZY! I just smeared it on. Next time, I'll make pretty designs. Because it's opaque, we can still see out the window. Hubby suggested Peppermint smelling soap because (supposedly) birds don't like the smell of peppermint. THANK YOU!!!

Will this stop a bird from fighting his reflection?
@OfficialMyxomatosis
@OfficialMyxomatosis 2 жыл бұрын
It can. _However, the _*_BEST_*_ thing _*_you_*_ can do_ is to *remove all reflective objects from your property.* This includes all fancy wind chimes or decorations - which can be repainted flat black. Use sun shields in your car all year and especially *during migration and breeding seasons.* This is important because lots of insects will end up in the nooks and crannies of your vehicles. Birds are HUNGRY for insects and go there.
