Every breakthrough comic goes against the mould to do it, Pryor and Carlin had to stop being fake and pandering to the mainstream, Chris Rock broke through because he did one bit that took off actively attacking part of the black community, Burr broke through by taking topics like men getting fleeced in divorce settlements and there's no reason to hit a woman, topics you couldn't really touch in the mainstream. If every major comedy outlet controlled by money from corporate sponsors tells you to be as PC as possible then you go against that as much as possible, if every comic tries to weave some sort of moral message at the end of their comedy then you go against that, if every comedian who does a Trump joke is predictable and one sided then you go against that. A comedian's job is to make people laugh and that's it, Shane gets that
